Assistant Site Coordinator - Ymca Afterschool Program

Our YMCA's Y Scholars Program is seeking an Assistant Coordinator who will assist in leading our program, our team, and our scholars (K-8th Grade) for the 2024-2025 school year!

Assistant Coordinators start in August and end in June. As a full-time leader, your typical work schedule is Monday-Friday, 10:00am-6:30pm.

You will be assigned to work at a middle school site in:

  • Richmond

Compensation: $25/hour (full-time, non-exempt)

About the YMCA Y Scholars Program
We work with schools in West Contra Costa and Oakland to create afterschool programming that focus on student enrichment in creativity, academic, and physical play. Together, we guide underserved children and families to reach their full potential.

Your Leadership Responsibilities

  • Assist Site Coordinators to lead team and program towards meeting goals/objectives of serving around 100 students on a daily basis
  • Take on the role of leading the program or leading a group of students in the absence of a Site Coordinator or a Group Leader
  • Provide leadership coaching and management to your team at the school site
  • Train and guide new team members
  • Do program observations and assessments to improve on program quality
  • Collect program data and measurements to show progress, success, and learnings
  • Attend all meetings and trainings to become competent in managing the program
  • Research and implement best practice strategies and emerging approaches for before and after school
  • Assist with events and other projects as needed

Your Qualifications:

  • Have at least 2 years of experience with youth development and programming
  • Have 48 college units or completion of the Instructional Aid (IA) Exam
  • Have a car to travel to meetings and training sites
  • Demonstrate effective conflict resolution, problem solving, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Possess ability to engage effectively with diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
  • Have proficiency in computer and database programs necessary to perform the duties of the job (Google Drive, AirTable, Zoom, etc)
  • Obtain CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date
  • Pass DOJ/FBI criminal background check

  • Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities
  • Must occasionally lift up to 30 lbs
  • Frequent bending & standing
  • Able to walk for long periods of time
  • Visual ability to clearly monitor activities in both indoor and outdoor settings
  • Mobility to quickly respond to emergencies
