About this job

You will be teaching in the Applied Science & Artificial Intelligence bachelor’s programme of our Academy for AI, Games & Media (AGM). Your job duties will involve teaching students the basics in data engineering, as well as contributing to the development of the programmes and their digital learning environment. Some of your activities will include:

  • Developing, implementing, and teaching of course material and workshops in the field mentioned above at both bachelor’s and master’s levels;
  • Guiding third-year students, alongside students from other programmes, in learning to collaborate with domain specialists;
  • Developing project briefs and assessments for students;
  • Coaching and supervising students in our Labs (the project environment for students), during placements and in graduation projects;
  • Since BUas considers applied research as one of its core responsibilities, participation in research projects (e.g., KreativeEU) may also be part of the position.

Knowledge of Python, SQL, cloud experience, experience using Git for version control, and affinity with Machine Learning and/or Operations Research concepts are essential for success in this position. Any experience with Scala/Java, Apache Hadoop, Spark, deployments using Docker or Terraform (IAC), CI/CD, is seen as a plus.

As a lecturer (0.6-1FTE) at BUas, you will have the opportunity to guide and support smart and highly committed young individuals on their journey to excellence in the creative business industry. Your role will include providing academic advice and support to students, fostering their personal and professional development.

What do we offer?

  • The salary for this position amounts to a monthly minimum of €4,535.76 and a monthly maximum of €6,359.47 (gross amounts based on full-time employment);
  • This position is classified in scale 11 of the cao-hbo (collective labour agreement). Your official job title will be that of lecturer;
  • This position involves a one-year employment contract with the possibility of conversion into an indefinite employment contract;
  • Your commuting expenses will be fully reimbursed if you travel by public transport;
  • You will receive an end-of-year bonus of 8.3% in December and an 8% holiday allowance in May;
  • You will receive a contribution towards your health insurance costs;
  • You will build an attractive pension through the ABP pension fund;
  • You will also be awarded professional development hours every year and approximately 11 weeks of holiday entitlements in a full-time position;

What do we ask of you?

  • You have a master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science (or equivalent);
  • You have extensive experience (at least 5 years) in Data Engineering Experience;
  • You have experience building production-ready data processing systems as a Data Engineer;
  • You have knowledge of continuous integration/deployment techniques;
  • You have the ability to coach third-year students (of the AGM studies and other programs) to learn to work with domain specialists. You give them feedback on teamwork, project management, problem analysis, stakeholder management, change management, and ethical and legal issues;
  • You have a positive and proactive attitude, with a team-oriented mindset and strong collaborative skills. You also have strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage complex projects and foster collaboration;
  • You preferably have experience as a lecturer, developer, manager, or consultant, and you are familiar with modern educational views;
  • You have teaching experience or are willing to undertake didactic training;
  • You will be working in an international and intercultural setting. Therefore, having excellent verbal and written communication skills in English is a necessity.
