Publicity professionals generate exposure and “buzz” for new books and are the biggest advocates of the titles to the media. Publicists pitch newspapers, television, radio stations, websites and bloggers with the hope the press will review our titles and feature stories about forthcoming books and authors. Publicists also help create social media outreach, author tours, author signings, readings, and other events.
Some responsibilities may include:
- Researching media contacts
- Crafting pitches for publicity campaigns
- Tracking media coverage and mailing books to media contacts
- Assisting in select publicity book mailings (remotely)
- Attending team meetings to help brainstorm new outlets or contacts to pitch our books
INTERNSHIP PROGRAM DETAILS
Penguin Random House offers an immersive 20-week PAID, REMOTE internship opportunity in the Fall 2023 and Spring 2024, available in our adult, children’s, and corporate divisions. Interns will have the opportunity to learn how to create marketing book campaigns, work on semester-long projects to develop skills in marketing books and receive robust training from our marketing teams to support professional growth. Our interns are also exposed to the publishing process and our business through panels, networking events, and a mentoring program!
What you study does not matter! We are looking for your desire to work with books, your drive to learn and your curiosity for the publishing industry.

Program Dates: September 11, 2023 – November 17, 2023 AND January 8th, 2024 – March 15th, 2024
REQUIREMENTS & ELIGIBILITY
- Must be ready to work full-time on or before June 2024 (You do not need to be enrolled in college or have a degree to apply to our internship program).
- Able to work 21 hours/week throughout the program
- Available and commit to the program working September 11th – November 17th, 2023 and January 8th – March 15th, 2024
- Must reside in the U.S. for the duration of the internship program
- Must be over the age of 18
Interns are paid $20/hour.
