2025 Summer Intern – Clinical Pharmacology

THE COMPANY

89bio is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company dedicated to the development of best-in-class therapies for patients with liver and cardiometabolic diseases who lack optimal treatment options. The company is focused on rapidly advancing its lead candidate, pegozafermin, through Phase 3 clinical development for the treatment of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) and severe hypertriglyceridemia (SHTG). Pegozafermin is a specifically engineered, potentially best-in-class fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) analog with unique glycoPEGylated technology that optimizes biological activity through an extended half-life. The company is headquartered in San Francisco.

THE ROLE

This Clinical Pharmacology internship will offer hands on experience working in biotech with clinical datasets and analyzing biomarker data using machine learning.

The qualified Intern will support ongoing research, and conduct exploratory data analysis, using high dimensional data analysis. This Intern will have the opportunity to develop programing skills related to data analysis, and machine learning while learning about the biology of the liver and the different roles of biomarkers and what they can teach us in a clinical stage, small biotech setting.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

THE QUALIFICATIONS

• Enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing the following degrees: Data Science, Statistics, Bioinformatics, or related field
• Experience with r and machine learning highly preferred
• Available to work on-site, in our SF office, 8 weeks from June - August and have the ability to work at least 30 hours a week
• Be legally authorized to work in the United States
• Detail-oriented, highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks
• Ability to work individually (independently) as well as on a team
• Background investigations are required for all positions by 89bio, consistent with applicable law

COMPENSATION

• This is a (30 hours/week) paid internship lasting 8 weeks over the 2025 Summer
• Pay will be commensurate with level (undergrad/graduate)
