SUMMARY: The Accountant at Voices of Hope is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization. This position plays a key role in ensuring financial integrity, grant compliance, and timely reporting across multiple funding streams. Working closely with the Executive Director and Finance Team, the Accountant ensures that financial practices align with nonprofit accounting standards and the mission and values of Voices of Hope.
The ideal candidate brings hands-on nonprofit accounting experience, proficiency in Sage Intacct, and a genuine commitment to supporting person-centered, recovery-oriented services.
This role requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a mission-driven environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
1. Maintain accurate and up-to-date general ledger entries in Sage Intacct, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close activities.
2. Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions in a timely and accurate manner.
3. Reconcile bank statements, credit card accounts, and other balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis.
4. Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
5. Support the annual budgeting process by compiling historical data and preparing budget worksheets.
6. Assist with financial management of grants and contracts, including tracking expenditures against grant budgets and preparing financial reports for funders.
7. Assist with processing and track reimbursement requests, drawdowns, and invoicing for funded programs.
8. Maintain organized and complete financial records and documentation in support of audits and funder reviews.
9. Support the annual audit process by preparing schedules, pulling documentation, and responding to auditor inquiries.
10. Assist with payroll processing and ensure accurate coding of payroll expenses to appropriate programs and funding sources.
11. Assist with process vendor payments, employee expense reimbursements, and other disbursements in accordance with organizational policies.
12. Maintain accurate records of fixed assets and depreciation schedules.
13. Ensure compliance with internal financial controls and organizational financial policies.
14. Provide financial data and support to program staff and leadership as needed.
15. Utilize Sage Intacct reporting tools to generate custom financial reports and support data-driven decision-making.
16. Prepare financial reports and presentations for Board meetings.
17. Uphold and model Voices of Hope's mission, values, and commitment to ethical and person-centered service delivery.
18. Collaborate across departments with respect, professionalism, and recognition of the value of lived experience and peer-led services.
QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
19. Minimum of 2-4 years of accounting experience, with nonprofit accounting experience required.
20. Proficiency in Sage Intacct is required; experience with Sage Intacct grant and project accounting modules strongly preferred.
21. Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles, fund accounting, and restricted/unrestricted revenue tracking.
22. Experience with grant financial management and compliance with federal, state, and private funder requirements.
23. Experience supporting or participating in annual audit processes.
24. Familiarity with payroll processing and nonprofit HR/payroll systems preferred.
25. Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and follow-through.
26. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-financial staff.
27. Strong team player with the ability to collaborate effectively with the Finance team and support a cooperative, communicative work environment.
28. Demonstrated commitment to recovery-oriented, person-centered, and trauma-informed approaches in the workplace.
29. Lived experience with recovery, or professional experience working closely with peer-led, recovery-focused, or human services organizations, strongly preferred.
30. Strong ethical standards, integrity, and commitment to transparency and accountability.
31. Commitment to equity, inclusion, and dignity for individuals, families, and communities served by Voices of Hope.
32. Ability to align fiscal responsibility with compassion, service continuity, and organizational values.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
The Accountant is expected to have a solid foundation in accounting principles and nonprofit financial management, typically demonstrated through a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field. Candidates should bring at least 2-4 years of hands-on accounting experience, with nonprofit experience required. Demonstrated proficiency in Sage Intacct is essential, as it is the organization's primary financial management system. Experience with grant compliance, fund accounting, and supporting annual audits is highly valued.
