The Strategic and Corporate Services Branch is seeking an organized, service oriented and flexible individual with accounting experience to join our team as the Financial Clerk for a nine-month term.
Reporting to the Financial Analyst, the Financial Clerk will:
- Be responsible for analyzing financial information, interpreting and applying accounting and financial policies and procedures.
- Review and interpret information sources to improve financial accounting controls and processes, including the development of internal operation procedures for financial management processes.
- Respond to information requests, prepare financial reports and present budget reports in a meaningful manner to support making financial decisions.
- Resolve queries, conflicts and exceptions regarding the processing of ministry payments and/or receivables.
- Review financial documentation for discrepancies and errors.
- Build and maintain close working relationships with external clients and internal team members.
- Input, update and retrieve information from financial systems.
To be successful in the role, the ideal candidate will have:
- Knowledge of accounting principles and practices, including reconciliation, forecasting, modelling, tracking and reporting.
- Excellent working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software and being able to retrieve, compile, evaluate and organize information to respond to inquiries and produce in-depth documents or reports.
- The ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
- Strong written and oral communication skills and strong attention to detail.
To succeed in this position, you will have experience with basic accounting principles and procedures relating to accounts payable and receivable, journal entries and reconciling accounts.
Typically, the knowledge and abilities required for this position would be obtained through an accounting certificate or diploma program or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
