About the role

We have a permanent part time position available working 32 hours part-time in our Emergency Department for an Administrator. We operate on a 24 hour 7 days a week basis, so preference will be given to applicants who are available over the full range of day, night and weekend shifts.

This is a busy and demanding role, being the initial point of contact for patients arriving at the Emergency Department and ensuring patient management systems are accurately updated and processes carried out in a timely manner.

As part of the Administration and Clerical Pay Equity Claim settlement this role has been mapped to National Band 4/Profile 4A

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Administration of Te Whatu Ora patient management system
  • Prioritising competing admin tasks for efficient patient flow
  • Processing patient information, records and Accident Compensation information
  • Showing respect and maintaining confidentiality of information
  • Providing great customer service to patients, staff and whanau
  • Having empathy, being calm under pressure, and attentive to detail

About the Team/Service/ Location

Christchurch Emergency Department (ED) is the largest ED in the South Island seeing more than 101,000 patients per year and covers a population catchment area of 500,000. We are part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team in the Emergency Department at Christchurch Hospital.

About you

Your skills will include:

Essential:

  • Excellent customer service skills - people focused
  • Technically savvy - quick at picking up new applications/systems
  • Excellent organisational, time management and problem solving skills
  • Ability to achieve accuracy and maintain attention to detail
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work unsupervised
  • A team player
  • Intermediate user in the Microsoft suite of products e.g. Word, Outlook, Excel
  • Excellent keyboard skills
  • High level of written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated perceptiveness and a proactive approach in an administrator role.

Desired:

  • Broad administrative experience in a health related field
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Familiarity with the public hospital system (including the patient management system)
  • Awareness of people of differing cultural backgrounds.
