ABOUT THE ROLE
This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the AFL Umpires Physical High-Performance program for the AFL Umpiring Department, including:
- Establishing an environment that enables all AFL umpires to perform to their maximum physical ability
- In consultation with the AFL Umpires Head Coach driving the weekly national umpire training program
- Oversee best practice for physical development, injury prevention and rehabilitation programs for all AFL umpires
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF
Key Accountabilities:
Establishing an environment that enables all umpires to perform to their maximum ability
- Contribute to a high-performance culture across the AFL umpires
- Align the performance of all medical, physiotherapy and high-performance staff ensuring a seamless experience for all AFL umpires
- Regularly provide education on best practice conditioning to AFL Umpires and Staff
- Participate as part of the AFL Umpiring Department operations committee
Manage the Strength and Conditioning Program for all AFL umpires
- Prepare individual strength and conditioning programs as part of umpire PDPs
- Prepare and conduct all conditioning and high-performance components for the AFL Umpire training program
Develop the Physical and Rehabilitation program for AFL umpires
- Develop all components that will support the physical development and rehab of umpires
- Mentor and develop State Conditioning Managers
- Oversee all database requirements that support umpire personal development programs
Manage all aspects of the AFL umpire monitoring system
- Manage the off-field programs of the 42 field, 27 goal and 43 boundary umpires
- Manage the operation of GPS data tracking
- Manage online data storage for umpire strength and conditioning purposes
Safeguarding Children and Young People
- To provide a welcoming and safe environment for children and young people and ensure interactions with children and young people are positive and safe.
- To adhere to the organisation’s practice and behavioural guidelines or code of conduct in relation to the appropriate treatment of children.
- Provide adequate care and supervision of children and young people if under your supervision.
- Report any suspicions, concerns, allegations or disclosures of alleged abuse to management.
- Requirement to report to management any relevant criminal charges or convictions during the course of your employment.
OUR IDEAL TEAM MEMBER
Core Competencies:
Mandatory
- Tertiary qualification – minimum Bachelor of Applied Science or related certification
- Experience working in conditioning, recovery and rehabilitation of elite athletes
- Experience in managing large and diverse groups of athletes
- Ability to manage internal and external stakeholder relationships and drive mutually beneficial outcomes for stakeholders
- Capacity to adapt communications style to engage specific audiences
- Ability to attend umpire training sessions during both pre-season and during season
- Ability to attend off site training and rehabilitation sessions
- Attendance at AFL House on AFL Connect days
- Some interstate travel and attendance at games will be required on occasions
- Excellent communication, teamwork, leadership, decision making and time management skills
Desirable
- Experience working with elite athletes in conditioning, recovery and rehabilitation.
- Experience working with women and girls in a high-performance program.
- Ability to create strategies and plans that will deliver designated outcomes
- Ability to identify future challenges and develop plans to address them
- Ability to analyse and interpret relevant data relating to physical performance of umpires
- AHPM Accreditation
