About the Role
The Assistant Associate Dean (AAD) is a key leadership role within the School of Computing Technologies, offering the opportunity to shape the direction and success of the Data Science & Artificial Intelligence (DSAI) Discipline. Working closely with the Associate Dean, DSAI, and the broader School leadership team, you will provide strategic and people leadership across the Discipline, supporting staff to excel in teaching, research and engagement. You will play an important role in representing the Discipline, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture, and contributing to the School’s ambitions for growth, innovation and impact across education and research.
As an accomplished academic leader and recognised researcher in a DSAI-related field, you will bring a strong track record of research excellence, academic leadership and staff development. In this role, you will lead and grow research programs and teams, strengthen a vibrant and inclusive research culture, and build productive collaborations across RMIT and with external partners. You will also contribute meaningfully to teaching and learning, helping to deliver outstanding student outcomes in the discipline. With influence across both the Discipline and the School, you will help shape strategic priorities, contribute to academic governance and committee leadership, and advance the profile and performance of DSAI within RMIT and beyond.
To be successful for this position, you will have:
Proven academic leadership experience, with the ability to lead teams, build capability and deliver on strategic objectives.
An established and respected research profile in a relevant field, with the capacity to lead and promote research excellence.
A strong record of innovative teaching and curriculum contribution in a relevant discipline, supported by a sound understanding of contemporary learning and teaching practice.
Strong understanding of relevant industry trends, priorities and the evolving higher education landscape.
Strategic thinking capability, with the ability to translate organisational priorities into practical actions and outcomes.
Highly developed interpersonal, communication, influencing and negotiation skills, with the ability to build strong relationships internally and externally.
A collaborative and collegiate approach, with proven ability to work across teams, align stakeholders and achieve shared goals.
Demonstrated ability to influence positive change, foster collaboration and promote excellence in teaching, research and academic performance.
Qualifications
Mandatory: A PhD in a relevant field (i.e., Data Science, AI or Computer Science), with experience, standing and achievements commensurate with appointment at Academic Level C, D or E at RMIT.
