Assistant Estimator - Commercial Construction

ASSISTANT ESTIMATOR

The Assistant Estimator is primarily responsible for the management, coordination, and successful completion of the preconstruction/estimating phase of projects. The Assistant Estimatorreports directly to the Director of Preconstruction.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Review project requirements, construction documents, specifications, and soil reports.
• Accurately list and solicit bids through invitation to bid sites.
• Communicate with subcontractors on anticipated project schedules and durations.
• Solicit, evaluate, and qualify subcontractor proposals.
• Assist with assembling pre-bid packages and scope sheets for subcontractors.
• Perform quantity takeoffs.
• Assist with preparing detailed estimates.
• Assist with creating detailed Qualifications, Clarifications, and Assumptions for proposals.
• Assemble and create project turnover bid books for Project Management.
• Actively manage the subcontractor database by adding new subcontractors and keeping existing subcontractors’ information up to date.
• Manage subcontractor prequalification process.

SECONDARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Accurately convey scope of work to subcontractors.
• Identify discrepancies in construction documents and potential scope gaps.
• Attend pre-bid meetings with architects and clients.
• Evaluate and develop value engineering options.
• Assist project management in developing project schedules.
• Actively research competitor subcontractor participation.
• Research and find subcontractors in unknown regions for upcoming projects.
