Job Purpose:
The Assistant Linen Porter Manager supports the Linen Porter Manager in delivering the outsourced linen service within the hospital and helps represent Johnsons Celtic Linen on site, embodying the company’s values and standards. The Assistant Linen Porter Manager also steps up to oversee daily operations in the absence of the Linen Porter Manager, ensuring continuity of service.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Site and Team Support:
- Assist the Linen Porter Manager in responding to requests, inquiries, or issues related to the Celtic Linen service, ensuring professional and timely communication.
- Support the daily coordination of the linen porter team to help ensure ensuring they perform their duties in an efficient and effective manner.
- Help provide training, support, and guidance to team members on linen handling procedures, infection control policies, and health and safety regulations.
- Provide feedback to the Manager on team performance and help encourage a positive and productive team environment.
- Support with roster coverage, holiday scheduling, and daily task assignments when required.
- Step in to provide basic team supervision and coordination in the Manager’s absence to ensure service continuity.
- Assist during emergency situations by helping coordinate resources and supporting a quick, effective response.
2. Linen Delivery & Collection:
- Deliver clean linen to hospital wards, clinics, and other departments as per the daily schedule.
- Collect soiled linen regularly and return it to the designated collection point.
- Make sure linen is stored properly to avoid contamination or damage.
- Support the curtain exchange programme, replacing patient area curtains as directed.
2. Stock Control:
- Support the monitoring of linen stock levels to ensure adequate supply is maintained.
- Track linen usage rates and promptly report discrepancies or concerns regarding stock or waste.
- Maintain accurate records of linen usage, deliveries, and collections.
- Collaborate on manage waste reduction efforts to improve cost-effectiveness.
3. Compliance & Quality Assurance:
- Actively adhere to promote infection control and health and safety standards to meet regulatory and quality guidelines for linen management.
- Assist in carrying out regular audits of linen processes and stock to identify areas of improvement.
- Assist in the enforcement of policies regarding the handling and disposal of contaminated or soiled linen.
- Infection Control: Ensure adherence to infection control protocols regarding all products delivered to the hospital, prioritising patient safety.
4. Health and Safety
- Support the Linen Porter Manager in ensuring all linen porters comply with health and safety protocols, including correct use of PPE.
- Support internal training as required.
- Identify any issues regarding equipment or breaches of protocols and report to the Linen Porter Manager
- Promote a culture of safety through hazard reporting and maintaining clean, safe working environments.
5. Communication & Reporting:
- Communicate clearly with hospital staff regarding linen needs or requests.
- Report any issues or faults (e.g. equipment, stock, or safety concerns) to the Linen Porter Manager.
- Record keeping or logging of deliveries and collections, as required.
Skills & Experience:
Previous experience in a hospital, care home, or facilities role is a plus.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Comfortable with manual handling tasks (trolley pushing, lifting linen packs, etc.).
Understanding of hygiene and infection control procedures.
Reliable, punctual, and willing to take initiative.
Attention to detail
IT Literacy (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Expected hours: No less than 39 per week
