Toorak Cellars is a dynamic, multi-faceted venue - equal parts bottle shop, café, restaurant and wine bar. We offer a constantly evolving list of wines by the glass, alongside the opportunity for guests to enjoy any bottle straight from our shelves.

About the Role

The Assistant Venue Manager plays a key role in shaping both the guest experience and the team environment at Toorak Cellars.

This is a hands-on leadership position within a fast-paced, ever-evolving venue. You will lead from the floor, guiding a large and diverse team to deliver service that is warm, efficient and informed. A strong focus on people management is essential - you will be responsible for developing, mentoring and inspiring staff, building a confident team with a genuine passion for hospitality and product.

You will work closely with the Venue Manager across all aspects of daily operations, including service planning, reservations, stock control, opening and closing procedures, and administrative responsibilities. Your ability to remain composed, decisive and detail-oriented in a high-volume environment will be critical to the success of the role.

A deep interest in food and wine is fundamental. You will be expected to lead through knowledge - driving standards on the floor, engaging guests with confidence, and ensuring the team is continually learning and improving.

You will also contribute to the commercial performance of the venue, supporting the delivery of financial targets while maintaining the integrity of the guest experience.

Who We’re Looking For
  • Proven experience in an Assistant Venue Manager or similar leadership role within a comparable venue

  • Strong people management skills, with experience leading, developing and motivating large, diverse teams

  • Ability to perform and lead effectively in fast-paced, high-volume service environments

  • A genuine passion for hospitality, with a guest-first mindset

  • Sound knowledge of wine, both local and international (WSET qualifications advantageous but not essential)

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail across all aspects of venue operations

  • Commercial awareness, including an understanding of P&L, GP and wage control

  • A proactive, positive attitude and a genuine desire to learn and grow

  • Full-time position with availability across evenings and weekends.
