About the Position:
Hazelview is seeking an Associate, Assistant Controller (Manager) who will thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. The successful candidate will be a member of the Finance & Operations team and a self-starter, who is interested in the investment management industry and has exceptional attention to detail. Reporting to the Partner, Corporate Controller, this role is responsible for managing Accounts Payable, oversee cash management and corporate accounting. The ideal candidate will be an accounting professional with a solid understanding of accounting principles. The Manager will also assist the Corporate Controller in the creation/development of new systems and processes, cash management, and strategic financial initiatives. This role will also be required to work on ad hoc analysis requests that support key decision-making, and will actively participate in the Finance Leadership Team to ensure all finance department goals and objectives are achieved.
Key Responsibilities
Corporate Accounting and FP&A
- Manage the month-end close cycle and ensuring regular monthly entries are booked on time; such as management fees and expenses accruals, expense chargebacks, intercompany transactions and reconciliations and cash transactions
- Review bank reconciliations and resolve outstanding journal entries
- Review balance sheet reconciliations and ensure items are cleared promptly
- Prepare reports, working papers and account analysis for monthly/quarterly financial reports and annual financial statements
- Prepare debt covenant reports and calculation
- Responsible for updating and analyzing cash forecast and other management reports
- Prepare annual budgets working papers and assist with presentation materials
- Update revenue and G&A budgets in Yardi
- Prepare or review budget vs actual analysis
- Prepare quarterly G&A forecast and prepare related analysis
Management of Accounts Payable
- Supervise the accounts payable team’s day-to-day operations and be the backup as needed
- Manage (including set up, update, and documentation) payment workflows and vendor records
- Manage payment-related queries
- Ensure timely processing of invoices and vendors in Yardi
- Oversee and manage the SAP Concur expense reimbursement system
- Lead group projects related to EFT, Concur expenses platform changes.
- Improve payment processes and documentation, including EFT, PAP, online payment, and Vendor Café
- Set up wires and wire templates on banking platform as needed
Process improvements and system implementation
- Identify, recommend and implement process improvements opportunities
- Assist in the development of new processes, systems, and models within corporate finance
- Assist with ad hoc analyses and projects
Talent management
- Lead, supervise, and provide training to a team of 2 to 3 employees
- Make recommendations for staffing needs to meet business needs
- Conduct performance evaluations, career development and coaching
Job Requirements:
Education and Experience:
- Degree in Finance or Accounting is required
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in a financial reporting or budgeting role for a large organization.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience managing and coaching staff is required
- Solid working knowledge of accounting
- Working towards CPA equivalent qualification is an asset
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office tools – i.e. Excel/PowerPoint including Power Pivots and Power Query is a must
- Previous exposure to real estate industry is an asset.
