Associate Environmental Planner
Under the supervision of a Senior Environmental Scientist Supervisor the Associate Environmental Planner will assess the impacts of the more complex transportation projects on biological resources and prepare documentation for appropriate environmental approvals. This includes, but is not limited to, mitigation measures and permits in compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and other state and federal laws. This work includes word processing and computer skills, researching information, writing, preparing, reviewing, and processing documents and contracts of a more complex nature. This position is rank and file.
Environmental Planner
Under the direction of a Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisor), the Environmental Planner (NS) is expected to assist in the coordination of and/or perform environmental planning, analysis, and evaluation work of studies and associated documents for projects of lesser complexity/responsibility. This work includes word processing and computer skills, researching information, analyzing potential environmental effects associated with proposed projects, writing, preparing, reviewing, and processing environmental documents of a less complex nature, along with a demonstrated understanding and ability to effectively review project design documents.

Working Conditions
Position located at 464 W. 4th Street, San Bernardino, CA 92401, San Bernardino County.
Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment.
The work environment is normally conducted between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM in a professional office atmosphere or home office (Telework) with florescent and/or incandescent lighting. Home/office temperatures are normally controlled heating and/or air conditioning set to accommodate the comfort level of the majority of the workers except when energy conservation measures may be required. Employee also will be required to travel and work outdoors and may be exposed to winds, dirt, noise, uneven surfaces, and/or extreme heat or cold. Employee will be required to work in all climates (season) in the low and high desert and mountainous areas. During the summer months, the temperature could exceed 100 degrees and as low as 30 degrees Fahrenheit on winter days. The work area includes urban and rural areas within San Bernardino and Riverside counties. Travel may include use of state owned, rented or privately owned vehicles, and travel on commercial bus, rail or airlines. Occasional training or work related assignments may be offered or required which could require travel to the training or work site (location) and staying over night for limited periods of time.
This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
