About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Casual Phlebotomist to join our Laboratory Services team. In this casual position, you will be responsible for collecting blood samples from patients, processing those samples, and ensuring accurate labelling and timely delivery to the lab for analysis. You will be called upon as required to assist with fluctuating workloads and cover for other staff during busy periods or absences.
Your role is crucial to ensuring smooth operations within the department and providing patients with professional and caring service during their blood collection procedures. The ideal candidate will be someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, is comfortable working independently, and can communicate effectively with patients and healthcare professionals alike.

About the Team/Service/ Location:
Our Laboratory Services team is a highly skilled and collaborative group of professionals dedicated to providing excellent diagnostic services. You will be working alongside pathologists, scientists, and other phlebotomists who are passionate about accuracy, efficiency, and patient care. We value teamwork and aim to create a supportive and engaging environment for all staff members.
About you:
We are looking for a skilled phlebotomist who can work flexibly as part of our casual pool. You will need to have strong technical abilities, excellent interpersonal skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality care.
- Key skills and experience include:
- Previous experience as a phlebotomist in a hospital or medical laboratory setting.
- Proficiency in venepuncture and other blood collection techniques, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain procedures clearly to patients and provide reassurance where needed.
- Attention to detail in labelling, processing, and handling samples to ensure accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively during busy periods.
- Familiarity with infection control practices and maintaining a clean, safe working environment.
- Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.
- Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
