We’re seeking an experienced Civil Engineering Manager to lead a high‑performing engineering team and drive excellence across complex land development and civil infrastructure projects. This senior role offers the opportunity to guide technical delivery, strengthen client relationships, and contribute to strategic growth within a respected New Zealand consultancy.

About the Role

As Civil Engineering Manager, you’ll provide strong operational, technical, and people leadership across the engineering discipline. You’ll champion high standards, oversee project delivery, and nurture a collaborative, forward‑thinking team environment.

You will:

  • Lead the day‑to‑day operations of the engineering department, ensuring high‑quality project delivery.

  • Manage and mentor engineers and technical staff to support capability growth and professional development.

  • Oversee complex civil engineering and land development projects from concept through to delivery, ensuring budgets, timeframes, and scope are achieved.

  • Drive client engagement, foster long‑term relationships, and seek opportunities to grow the client base.

  • Maintain strong quality assurance and health & safety practices across all engineering activities.

  • Support strategic planning, business development initiatives, and continuous improvement of systems and processes.

  • Represent the organisation professionally across industry networks, hearings, and technical forums.

About You

You’ll be a seasoned civil engineering professional who brings technical depth, leadership confidence, and strong commercial acumen.

You will ideally have:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering (or relevant equivalent).

  • CPEng or CMEngNZ, or the ability to obtain these.

  • Proven experience leading multidisciplinary civil engineering or land development teams.

  • Strong capability in project management, client liaison, and technical delivery.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to present technical evidence when needed.

  • A collaborative leadership style, with a passion for developing people and cultivating a positive team culture.

  • Sound understanding of QA systems, financial performance drivers, and New Zealand consenting processes.
