You are a great driver. That’s a given. You have a Class 1 license with Fuel or Liquid Hauling experience. You may not have a hundred years of driving experience, but you are conscientious and safe in any kind of horrible weather or beautiful blue skies. While you may be alone in your truck, you are not a lone wolf. This is a physical job so you must be able to lift/move up to 70 pounds and there is regular overtime.

What you will do day-to-day:
- Oversee cargo handling and secure loads, including equipment preparation, application of safe practices, compliance with applicable Acts and safety regulations
- Perform pre/ post trip inspections on equipment and load, ensuring safety and roadworthiness
- Comply with applicable legislation including safe operation, carriage of goods, driver's hours of service, occupational health and safety, transportation of dangerous goods, customs and immigration and weights and dimensions
- Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions; check that vehicle position is correct and any special loading equipment is properly positioned.
- Check vehicles before driving them to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
- Check all load-related documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate.
- Operate equipment such as truck mike phone to exchange necessary information with dispatch, managers, or other drivers.
- Maintain logs of working hours and of vehicle service and repair status, following applicable provincial and federal regulations.
- Record and maintain required documentation, including driver logbook, bills of lading, etc.
- Communicate effectively with the public, government officials, customers, and co-workers
- Placarding of units
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
- Exposure to noise, dust, odors, fumes, and oils may occur
- You will frequently be required to stand, talk, and listen
- Deliver products and proper paperwork to our customers in a courteous and timely manner
- Inspection of site tanks for damage or faulty equipment
- Provide feedback to Dispatcher regarding the customer, mechanical, or delivery problems
- Thorough washing of vehicle, inside and out
- Complete and turn in all necessary paperwork at the end of the shift. May include, but is not limited to, Driver daily logs, TDG documentation including fuel lading forms (declining balance), bills of lading, inspection logs, delivery receipts, vehicle inspection, hours of service, etc.
What you will do occasionally:
- Train others when required
- Greasing of the unit in between servicing as instructed by AFD
- Tire Chain maintenance, repair, installation, and removal
- Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles.
- Minor roadside repairs such as lights, loose fittings, airline repairs, etc.
What you need to succeed:
- 2+ years’ experience in fuel hauling is an asset or 2 years' experience driving Super B or related equipment.
- 2+ years of direct work experience in a Class 1 Driving Capacity with hauling liquids.
- Professional operation of MANUEL transmission is mandatory for all applicants.
- All applicants must have a valid class 1 license with 5 years clean abstract. Abstract must be attached to all applications.
- Knowledge of MS Office, and e-mail required
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding environment
- H2S Alive, First Aid and CFA – CPPI (Considered an asset)
- Positive attitude.
- Experience with off road, mountain, and winter driving
- Follow safe practices set in place by customer and AFD facilities
- Basic knowledge of apps on the phone and e-logs
- Capable of performing minor maintenance and repairs on trucks if needed
- Ability to reset on the road if required
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment
- All applicants will be required to pass a drug/alcohol test, criminal background check and 50lb fitness test.
