This job participates in an apprentice program that consists of regular courses and lectures in progressively advanced topics in clinical trials research. Learns about and participates in the development, vetting, startup, operation, monitoring, data collection, and administrative strategies essential to the successful conduct of clinical trials research. Participates in work assignments that provide experiences of increasing complexity and responsibility throughout the program.

Education

Required - High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred - Bachelor’s degree in healthcare or related field.

Work Experience

Required - 1 year of clinical experience,

OR

bachelor’s degree in healthcare or related field.

Certifications

Required - Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 60 days of hire.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Organizational skills.

Job Duties

  • Completes work rotations in clinical research, biospecimen collection and processing, clinical regulatory management, data management, and human research protection.

  • Shadows experienced study coordinators and assists regulatory staff.

  • Recruits and consents study subjects, conducts research interviews, processes biospecimens, and completes case report forms.

  • Learns and participates in protocol development, credentialing, preparing, and submitting Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications, writing consent forms, preparing physician orders, processing IRB amendments, and electronic data capture.

  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
