RTI International is hosting a Communications Internship within Sustainable Growth & Resilience (SG&R) technical unit within the International Development Group (IDG) located in Manila, Philippines.
RTI's Sustainable Growth & Resilience (SG&R) technical unit within the International Development Group brings together RTI experts and capabilities across food security, agriculture, energy, environment, water, governance, and economic opportunity. SG&R leverages RTI's experience in designing and delivering multisectoral programming and technical solutions to respond to climate change, build resilience, and promote economic growth around the world.
USAID’s U.S.-Philippines Partnership for Skills, Innovation, and Lifelong Learning (UPSKILL) Program aims to strengthen the Philippine higher education system to support broad-based and inclusive growth. UPSKILL does this by strengthening the innovation capacities and workforce development functions of Philippine higher education institutions (HEIs) through faculty development, curriculum improvements, and engagement with industry and international partners, as well as overall improvements in HEI management and administration. UPSKILL also supports an enabling regulatory and policy environment to improve governance in the sector and provide convergence platforms for stakeholders to work together in achieving shared development goals.
The Communications Intern will support the communications team in creating and delivering a variety of content for social media and other communication efforts. The intern will be under the guidance of the Chief of Party or their designee. They will learn about strategic communications, writing content for various audiences, and the international development sector.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn about how social media can be used for youth and stakeholder engagement.
- Gain perspective on how to write messages for different audiences, capture development impact stories, and produce various kinds of communications products.
- Learn about the role of communications in international development.
- Develop professional writing skills.
Responsibilities
- Learn about and assist the communications team in developing and executing social media and campaign strategies to enhance engagement.
- Create written content for success story articles. Subject matter and data collection will be directed by project staff.
- Support the production of creative and engaging content for social media platforms, primarily on written posts and specific messaging.
- Learn to conduct field interviews to provide content to stories, articles, and other communication materials.
- Draft and edit various materials, such as press releases, short articles, and success stories as required by technical staff. Feedback will be given on professional writing.
- At least four well-researched and self-written success stories with a minimum of 1000 words per story.
- Create written content for at least 10 social media submissions of the project.
- Conduct at least 5 in-person field interviews within Metro Manila to support research and content creation of required stories, articles, or social media posts.
- Contribute to the editing of press releases, short articles, and speeches.
Additional Information
This is an academic credit internship. A stipend will be provided. The internship is estimated to start January 2025 and end June 2025. The internship requires a maximum commitment of thirteen hours per week. Hours are flexible during business hours, Monday through Friday.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Must be a local resident of the Philippines.
- Must be a bonified student currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree in Communications or a related field
- Must be eligible to receive academic course credit or fulfill an academic program requirement (Documentation required. If possible, please upload to the application.)
- High proficiency in English and Tagalog
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to adapt tone and messaging for different audiences.
- A compelling storyteller proficient particularly in written media.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating with various technical staff and stakeholders in crafting written content.
- Must be able to report to the UPSKILL office in Makati or sites within Metro Manila as needed to collaborate with project staff or interview stakeholders.
- Provide a work sample in the form of a cover letter or personal biography.
