Job Description & Position Overview

MCL Supports (MCL) is an organization funded by the Department of Community Services (DCS), namely the Disability Support Program (DSP).

Job Description

The CRW empowers individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities as well as mental health challenges by enabling them to live their best lives in Nova Scotian communities. This includes– though is not limited to –active community engagement, support opportunities for social inclusion, life skill development and assistance with activities of daily living (ADL). The CRW adheres to Active Support and least restrictive practices while establishing and maintaining meaningful relationships with the individuals they support.

Reporting to the Program Coordinator (PC), the Community Residential Worker (CRW) is responsible for providing community based support to Metro Community Living’s (MCL) participant population.

Participant Planning & Support

  • Maintains strict confidentiality on all matters pertaining to the participants served.
  • Building positive and collaborative relationships with participants receiving support.
  • Responsible for enriching the community experience with participants.
  • Works with the participant to explore interests, pursue activities of interest and support them with leading a healthy lifestyle.
  • Supports participants with personal care as required.
  • Collaborates with the participant, as well as their PC as it relates to the daily planning and implementation of their individual support plan(s).
  • Supports participants with attending all medical, mental health and therapeutic appointments and that treatment recommendations are implemented.
  • Fosters a positive working relationship with community partners as required.
  • Ensures that participant Special Needs Requests are submitted to the PC in a timely manner.
  • Supports the participants with cleaning duties as outlined on the Daily/Weekly/Monthly task lists.
  • Supporting the participants with preparing meals as per menu plan and related DSP guidelines while ensuring that the options are reflective of the participants preferences and choices.
  • Completes other related duties as assigned by the PC.

Administration

  • Follows all company policies and procedures as it relates to participant planning and support, financial management, workplace safety standards and administration.
  • Responsible for completing proper documentation and record keeping.
  • Collaborates with the PC to complete Individual Program Plans (IPPs) on an annual basis with the participant.
  • Completes participant Quarterly Reports and submits to the PC for review.
  • Supports the PC in completing a monthly cash request.
  • Completes other related duties as assigned by the PC.

Qualifications:

Education and experience in the Human Services sector is considered an asset.

Courses required: Non-Aversive, Crisis Prevention, SFA/CPR, Basic PCW, Fire & Life Safety, Medication Awareness & Individual Program Planning, Food Handlers and WHMIS.

Strong communication skills, written and oral.

Experience in recreation and leisure and/or community services.

Clear and current criminal record check with vulnerable sectors.

Pay: From $16.90 per hour
