Job description Community Service Coordinator

Hours: Permanent positions available – varied hours to suit

Job specific information

We are seeking a like-minded person who is committed to making a difference in the lives of disabled children, individuals and their families/whānau in the Waikato area (position is based in Hamilton). Key functions of this role are offering support, information and advocacy to people, and coordinating support workers to provide our services in the community and people’s homes. A key focus is supporting people through times of change in their lives and this includes liaising with schools, agencies and community networks.

Our organisation takes a social, rather than medical approach, supporting disabled people to live their best lives. We are guided by the Enabling Good Lives principles, shifting power and authority back to disabled people and their families, to increase choice and control in their lives.

About you

We are looking for people who have:

  • Proven advocacy skills.

  • Experience working with families/whānau accessing services.

  • An ability to form positive relationships and networks.

  • Great communication skills, both oral and written including report writing.

  • Experience in current disability issues.

  • An ability to coordinate others.

  • An ability to work across a diverse community.

  • Sound organisational and computer ability including MS Office.

  • A creative streak and be able to think laterally.

  • Previous experience in working with disabled people.

  • A social science, social work or education qualification (is desirable).
