In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to the Director, Clinical Analytics, the Consultant works as an integral part of the Decision Support team to inform decision making related to quality, patient safety and service line efficiencies and improvements at the point of care. The Consultant has primary responsibility for analysis and interpretation of complex clinical healthcare datasets. The Consultant works closely with a range of clients on analytical projects of large and small scale, and ad hoc data/information requests. Working collaboratively with multiple teams, the Consultant will perform statistical analysis, provide interpretive advice or guidance, and participate in the modelling of clinical information in the data warehouse. This position requires a strong commitment to customer service and a sound understanding of healthcare data and information
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training And Experience
A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Master's degree in a relevant discipline such as Health Informatics, Statistics or Social Sciences and five (5) years' progressive experience working in an analytical capacity in a health services environment.
Skills And Abilities
- Ability to manipulate, analyse and interpret clinical data using complex statistical concepts and methodologies and present complex information in a manner that meets client needs.
- Proficiency with analytical software (including SQL, Excel, R, Tableau); experience with the Microsoft Office suite of products an asset.
- Strong analytical and statistical skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of research design and methods.
- Experience working with an enterprise data warehouse.
- Strong verbal, written and presentation skills.
- Project management skills an asset.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Ability to multitask and handle competing demands.
- Broad understanding of current issues, challenges and future directions of health care delivery in Canada.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
