Location: San Francisco - Hybrid

Reports To: Accounting Manager
Job Status: Full-Time, Exempt
Compensation: $72,000.00 - $76,000.00, DOE; medical, dental, vision & retirement plan

Summary:
The Corporate Accountant plays an integral and important role for MHDC’s accounting and finance team and applies independent judgment and discretion to achieve results. This staff-level position supports the department and MHDC employees and is responsible for Corporate AP, AR, Payroll and Benefits, and Credit Card, Corporate Bank and certain Account Reconciliations. Special projects may be assigned from time to time, including responding to audit inquiries during audit season.
Essential functions:
General
- Applies Generally Accepted Accounting Principles to all functions
- Maintains relevant and assigned General Ledger account accuracy
- Resolves issues in a timely manner in coordination with Accounting Manager and Controller
- Interacts with auditors regarding end-of-year requests and document productions
- Reviews and analyzes financial data
- Engages in continuing education and/or professional training sessions regularly
- Supports monthly closing by completing tasks timely and accurately
- Participates in MHDC-sponsored activities for community development from time to time
- Adapts to new systems readily
- Works independently and collaboratively to accomplish position and department goals
- Performs other duties as considered appropriate and consistent with the mission of Mission Housing, including working at occasional community-building activities, programs and events, as needed, during or outside regular business hours
Account Reconciliation
- Monitors, analyzes and reconciles assigned prepaid GL accounts
- Reviews, analyzes and reconciles payroll, payroll tax and payroll benefits GL accounts
- Reviews, analyzes and reconciles assigned, relevant corporate expense GL accounts
- Resolves reconciliation discrepancies
- Prepares and enters approved reconciliation journal entries
- Creates and posts year-end adjusting journal entries for responsible GL accounts
- Alerts Controller and Accounting Manager of irreconcilable discrepancies
Accounts Payable
- Sets up new vendor accounts; obtains and files relevant documentation for MHDC use
- Reviews check requests for complete and accurate information
- Fulfills MHDC check requests weekly as directed, timely and accurately
- Processes vendor payments weekly
- Responds to staff inquiries regarding vendor bills and payments
- Replies to vendor inquiries regarding their bills and payments
- Interacts with vendors regarding problem resolutions
- Files necessary vendor documents (checks, W9s, ACH authorizations)
- Processes federal, state and local annual taxes and registrations for all entities
- Prepares and sends charge back invoices to properties for purchases made through Corporate
- Monitors and maintains petty cash distributions and balances
- Creates and files annual 1099 reporting
- Processes MHDC employee expense reports and reimbursements
Accounts Receivable
- Prepares monthly property invoices for revenue and reimbursable charges
- Receives and posts property payments in a timely and accurate manner
- Deposits properties’ payments
- Prepares donor and fundraising invoices on request
- Receives, posts and deposits donations and fundraising monies
- Monitors outstanding property receivables and collects on outstanding balances
- Alerts Controller and Accounting Manager of problematic collections
Payroll
- Enters, monitors, processes and posts bi-weekly payroll
- In coordination with HR, maintains and updates ADP payroll records for all staff, new hires and terminations
- Files, posts and pays bi-weekly 403b contributions, worker’s compensation insurance premiums, garnishments and other payroll benefit contributions
- Resolves payroll tax, withholding and employee pay issues with HR and ADP
- Downloads and files appropriate payroll documentation
- Monitors distribution of live paychecks
Credit Card Reconciliation
- Downloads and files monthly credit card statements
- Distributes, collects and posts monthly credit card reconciliation reports
- Resolves credit card questions and issues with credit card holders
- Maintains online credit card profiles
- Monitors online credit card expense submittals
- Ensures credit card use conforms to MHDC standards
- Alerts Controller and Accounting Manager of problematic or unauthorized credit card use
Bank Reconciliation
- Downloads and files monthly bank account statements
- Performs monthly reconciliation of credit card statements
- Posts monthly interest revenues and bank charge expenses
- Performs monthly account reconciliation of all corporate bank accounts: checking, investment and reserve accounts
- Performs quarterly petty cash reconciliation
- Resolves reconciliation discrepancies including outstanding items
- Prepares reconciliation journal entries
- Creates and posts year-end adjusting journal entries for corporate accounts

Minimum qualifications:
- B.A. in accounting or finance from an accredited institution or commensurate professional, related experience
- Two – three years’ experience as accounting clerk, accounting specialist and/or junior accountant
- MS Office proficiency, especially Excel
- Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills
- One year NetSuite or other ERP experience
- One year ADP experience
- Effective time management skills, organization skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work under pressure with strict deadlines
- Experience in a non-profit and/or Real Estate organization
- Ability to handle multiple and/or shifting priorities
- Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy and to maintain confidentiality
Physical demands:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands; reach, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk and drive.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
