Custodian Ii

Definition

Under general supervision of the Custodial Supervisor, performs a variety of general cleaning and custodial maintenance activities in various Community facilities, including medical / clinical environments. This job class is treated as FLSA non-exempt and considered a DRIVING position subject to working on-call and weekend hours.

Distinguishing Features:
The Custodian II is a driving position. This position will not work at the Education facilities during regular school hours and therefore is not required to pass an extensive background and fingerprint clearance. The position will work at government facilities, which may include medical / clinical environments.

Essential Functions:

Examples of Tasks

  • Performs a variety of general cleaning tasks, including vacuuming, extraction, cleaning carpets, scrubbing, and mopping floors, stripping, waxing, and polishing floors, washing windows and equipment, dusting and polishing furniture, cleaning/sanitizing restroom facilities, and stocking all with appropriate custodial supplies.
  • Mixes cleaning chemicals and solvents necessary to perform cleaning activities as instructed and trained.
  • Maintains an inventory of cleaning equipment, tools, supplies, and materials at the assigned work location. Notifies Lead Custodian or Custodial Supervisor in a timely manner to reorder equipment, tools, supplies and materials as needed.
  • Performs all work in a safe and efficient manner. Understands Safety Data Sheets, blood borne pathogens, proper equipment usage, labelling, signage, and personal protective equipment as instructed and trained.
  • Picks up and delivers items for other custodial staff, including supplies and materials as needed.
  • Performs other job-related duties that enhance and facilitate departmental operations.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics:
  • Knowledge of the history, culture, laws, ordinances, customs, and traditions of the SRPMIC.
  • Knowledge of the Public Works Department and assigned programs and duties.
  • Knowledge of proper and safe use of custodial chemicals.
  • Knowledge of custodial equipment including buffers, burnishers, wet and dry vacuums and supplies used for cleaning work.
  • Knowledge of general custodial building maintenance methods and practices.

  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other staff and the public.
  • Skill in following oral and written instructions.
  • Skill in operating a motor vehicle.

  • Ability to move objects weighing more than 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and walk approximately 90% of the workday.
  • Ability to bend or stoop repeatedly or continually.
  • Ability to climb ladders or steps.
  • Ability to lift arms above shoulders to perform work tasks.
  • Ability to use and work safely with cleaning chemicals and solvents.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Equivalency: Any equivalent combination of training and experience that would enable the candidate to satisfactorily perform and meet the duties and responsibilities required will be considered in meeting the stated minimum qualifications.
  • Underfill Eligibility: An enrolled Community Member whom closely qualifies for the minimum qualifications for a position may be considered for employment under SRPMIC Policy 2-19, Underfill

Special Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver’s License.

Prior to hire as an employee, applicants will be subject to drug and alcohol testing. Will be required to pass a pre-employment background/fingerprint check.
