The Data Analyst ensures that high quality coded health information is submitted to the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) in a timely manner, according to guidelines set by CIHI/MOHLTC/CCO and the hospital. They are experts in medical coding (ICD10CA/CCI) in an Acute hospital setting, using their expertise to define and conduct quality audits on coded data. Data Analysts collaborate with internal and external partners to correct existing errors and implement preventative measures to prevent future errors. High quality data is essential to support appropriate funding, resource allocation and exceptional health care.

Status: Regular full-time

Rate of Pay: $30.70 per hour - $40.89 per hour

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a College Certificate or Diploma in Health Information Management
  • Undergraduate Degree preferred
  • Certified Health Information Management (CHIMA) required
  • Minimum 1 year of recent relevant experience
  • Handles and maintains patient confidentiality and privacy according to LHSC policies, privacy and legal requirements.
  • Meticulous accuracy and attention to detail, and strong analytical skills
  • Methodical understanding of CIHI indices and comparative reports
  • Detailed knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology and medical terminology
  • Proficient coding skills
  • Expert knowledge of Canadian Coding Standards (CCS), Discharge Abstract Database (DAD), National Ambulatory Care Reporting System (NACRS), and American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) abstracting manuals
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficient with Cerner and PowerChart
  • Advanced knowledge of 3M
  • Health Data Management (HDM) abstracting system, Codefinder software and CIHI Folio Views (ICD-10-CA, CCI)
  • Working knowledge of the complicated funding formulas involving QBP?s, HIG/CMG, CACS, RIW, basic knowledge of 3M Report Writer and Clinical Documentation Improvement Software
  • Strong collaboration skills
  • Advanced interpersonal communication (verbal and written)
  • Demonstrates formal presentation and facilitation skills preferred
  • Experience in Microsoft Structured Query Language (SQL) preferred
  • Project management skills preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to develop education materials, conduct training needs assessment onsite or virtual preferred
  • Ability to provide and receive effective, constructive feedback preferred
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC's vision, purpose and values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
