Position Overview: This internship program provides a framework for students and post-graduates to enhance their analytics experience in an applied setting. The intern will be assigned to a project, research question, or problem statement that best suits both the business need and their skill set. The intern will work through the various steps of a Data Science cycle, culminating in a final summary (white paper, sample ML deployment, or report), demonstration, and writeup of their decision-making process, findings, and recommendations. Essential Responsibilities: Data mapping, transforming, and preparation- Assemble large, complex data sets that meet business requirements
- Scrub data
- Construct automatable processes for replication
- Explore and analyze complex relationships to identify underlying trends, patterns, and relationships
- Develop visualizations, reports, and observation summaries
- Identify relevant features or covariates to inform model selection
- Develop, test, and validate multivariate statistical, predictive, or machine learning model(s)
- Interpret and document findings, lessons learned, and final recommendations
- Create and maintain appropriate technical documentation, code repository, and source control
- Assist in developing end-to-end pipeline for production as appropriate
- Critically evaluate final model, algorithms, processes, or recommendations. Document potential limitations and biases.
- Meet department and company performance and attendance expectations.
- Follow the PacificSource privacy policy and HIPAA laws and regulations concerning confidentiality and security of protected health information.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Certificates, Licenses: Ideal candidate is a graduate student or has recently graduated with an advanced degree in a related field (such as statistics, public health/ epidemiology/ biostatistics, data analytics, or other related field) and is actively pursuing a career in the field. Knowledge:

Educational and/or applied experience with:
- Research methods
- Program evaluation
- Health care analysis
- Creating technical documentation
- Proficiency in at least one or more programming languages (such as R, Python, SAS, Stata, MPlus, SQL, SPSS) with a desire to learn new technologies as needed.
- Working understanding of statistical and predictive modeling concepts (and appropriate uses), machine learning approaches, natural language processes, and/or clustering and classification techniques
- Work well both independently and on a team
- Excellent communication skills
- Self-motivated and eager to learn
- Strong critical thinking and collaborative problem-solving skills
- Attention to details both subtle and obvious
