Data Scientist

Herd is seeking an experienced Department of Defense Data Scientist to support financial management, data analytics, and business process improvements..

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working with DoD financial and business feeder systems, enterprise resource planning (ERP) transitions, and advanced data reporting tools. tools.
• Responsibilities Lead data analysis and reporting initiatives to support financial management within the DoD and Department of the Navy.
• Develop and refine financial reporting requirements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal financial management standards.
• Utilize ADVANA, Jupiter, Power BI, and other data visualization tools to analyze and present financial data. Support the transition from legacy financial systems (e.g., SABRS) to modern ERP solutions, such as Navy ERP.
• Develop and maintain financial data structures, ensuring alignment with OMB, Navy, and OSD guidelines.
• Assist in audit remediation and compliance efforts, ensuring adherence to Standard Financial Information Structure (SFIS) and DoD financial reporting requirements.
• Provide financial dashboard updates and custom ad hoc reporting to support decision-making at various levels.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to define financial codes and reporting structures that meet evolving DoD requirements.
• Support process improvements for DoD financial planning, programming, and execution data management.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Data Science, or a related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in financial management, data analytics, or business intelligence within the DoD.
• Strong expertise in DoD financial systems and data platforms, including ADVANA, Jupiter, SABRS, SMARTS, Navy ERP, and PBIS.
• Proven experience in ERP system transitions and financial data structure management.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Power BI and Advana-Jupiter data visualization and reporting.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex financial datasets.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to train and support DoD personnel on financial systems and reporting tools.
• Knowledge of DoD audit compliance and remediation efforts.

Requirements and Qualifications:

• Must be a US citizen

Security Clearance:

• Candidates must possess, or be eligible to receive, U.S. DoD Secret-level Security Clearance

Travel:

• Flexibility to work remote with 15% travel expectation.
