Deputy Fire Marshal/Code Enforcement

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for administration of all federal, state and local regulations, codes and ordinances and regulations under the jurisdiction of the City of Radcliff Fire Department.
  • Responsible for enforcing the City’s public nuisance regulations including but not limited to regulations relating to weeds and high grass, unsanitary conditions, junk vehicles and substandard building abatement.
  • Perform follow-up inspections to ensure compliance; secure moving/clean-up services for properties whose owners are non-responsive; and ensure mowing/clean-up notices are sent and liens filed.
  • Responsible for assisting in the abatement of zoning violations; preparation of violation notices and provide testimony in District Court.
  • Inspect businesses, rental units and other related sites and structures to insure compliance with all applicable code, ordinances and regulations.
  • Prepare notices of violation and work proactively with property owners to achieve ordinance compliance. • Identify illegal signs and in accordance with City ordinance and policy, ensure illegal signage is brought into compliance or removed.
  • Prepare and maintain required departmental reports and records. • Coordinates and works with Radcliff Police Department and other Government Agencies during investigations.
  • Knowledge of the geography of the City.
  • Assist in the performance of other department duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent, preferably supplemented by related work experience. Must be at least 21 years of age. The ability to read, write and understand the English language. Must possess a valid Kentucky motor vehicle operator’s license. The ability to obtain various other certifications as deemed necessary by the Mayor or Fire Chief. The skill to pass physical, written or oral exams. Proficiency to pass a background check prior to employment. SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Kentucky Fire Inspector I if not already obtained. Must possess the ability to deal courteously but firmly with the public and to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with City officers, employees and the general public. Must have the physical skill to perform site and building sections which consist of climbing ladders, entering crawl spaces, climbing into attic areas and on roof tops. Other physical requirements are climbing stairs, squatting and standing for long periods of time, lifting and carrying items over 25 pounds. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Pay: From $40,860.00 per year
