About the team

The Business Grants Hub Division (BGH) is responsible for the design and management of grant programs on behalf of 10 other Commonwealth departments, managing over $9b in government’s investment in Australian businesses.

Grants play a critical role in:

  • supporting growth in businesses and industries
  • fostering research and innovation
  • strengthening communities
  • helping the environment
  • providing emergency relief
We provide an end-to-end grant delivery service using a national network. In addition to grant program management, the division encompasses enabling functions that provide a comprehensive support model for grant delivery. These broadly include management of grant assurance and compliance activities, workforce planning as well as delivery of continuous improvement projects.

It is a dynamic division of over 400 people, all our teams are geographically dispersed with staff located all around Australia!

The Design Team works closely with policy partners and program delivery teams within the department to develop and design grant opportunities which deliver the Government’s agenda. The work is varied, detailed and delivered within legislative and regulatory frameworks. The team operates across a disperse geographic network and maintains a positive, supportive culture which values professionalism, integrity and collaboration.

  • experience in providing straight forward and impartial advice.
Previous experience in the APS and grant programs is desirable but not essential.

What you will do

As a member of the Design teams, you will work collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment and be responsible for managing relationships with policy partners from external Commonwealth agencies. You will work as a member of a geographically dispersed team, working collaboratively with policy partners across government, to guide them through the onboarding process for the programs for which they are responsible.

You will assist in:

  • co-designing programs to be cost effective, fit for purpose, innovative and consistent with whole-of-government and Business Grants Hub frameworks.
  • drafting and preparing a range of grant program documentation including Grant Opportunity Guidelines.
  • managing schedules to work towards key deliverables to launch programs on time, in consultation with policy partners, and internal stakeholders.
  • coordinating meetings and approvals process between internal and external parties.
  • contributing to continuous improvement of templates and processes.
In addition to the core functions above, as a Design Officer (APS5) you will undertake complex work under direction. You will:


  • create and manage program schedules in a purpose-built system
  • maintain the database of information across all programs managed by the design teams
  • coordinate administrative priorities for team
  • compile reports for distribution to senior executives within the branch.
In addition to the core functions above, as an Assistant Account Manager (APS6) you will undertake complex work under limited direction. You will:


  • work in a small team of program design officers that is responsible for establishing expectations, reviewing work and managing improvement initiatives
  • support members of the team to develop their capability, build a positive and productive culture and facilitate the production of high-quality work.

Eligibility

To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens.

Positions require a Baseline security clearance and successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.

Notes

This recruitment process is being used to fill permanent ongoing APS5 and APS6 roles.

A merit pool will be established to fill future APS5 and APS6 vacancies should they become available within 18 months from the date advertised. Candidates rated as suitable (but not immediately selected) will be placed on a merit list for potential future employment with the department.

Positions are available nationally with flexible work arrangements offered, however, you will need to have the capacity to attend our office locations. Please reach out to the contact officer to discuss this further.
