About the research project
The position is connected to the competence center TechForH2 hosted by Chalmers University of Technology. The project addresses hydrogen embrittlement in hydrogen-fuelled internal combustion engines, focusing on the risk of material degradation associated with the use of hydrogen as a fuel. The research will investigate degradation and damage mechanisms that influence the reliability and durability of engine materials. The project is expected to generate new knowledge and expertise that will contribute to the development of sustainable vehicle propulsion systems. An additional important component of the role involves collaboration with partners in both academia and industry.
Who we are looking for
The following requirements are mandatory:
- To qualify as a Doctoral student, you must have a Master's degree corresponding to at least 120 credits by an internationally recognized university in materials science, mechanical engineering, material mechanics, physics and/or production engineering.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- An interest and curiosity in the subject as well as good analytical skills are desirable.
- Applicants are expected to demonstrate good potential within research including project management, and education.
The following experience will strengthen your application:
Experience and good knowledge of metallic materials are considered as advantages.
Skills in materials processing and characterization are considered as merits.
What you will do
- Take courses at an advanced level within the Graduate school of Materials Science
- Develop your own scientific concepts and communicate the results of your research verbally and in writing
- The position also includes teaching on Chalmers' undergraduate level or performing other duties corresponding to 10 percent of working hours
Contract terms
- The Doctoral student positions are fully funded from start.
- The position is a fixed-term appointment of 2.5 years until Licentiate degree, with the potential of extension.
- A starting salary of 34,550 SEK per month (valid from May 25, 2025).
- Doctoral studies require physical presence throughout the entire study period. A valid residence permit must be presented by the study start date; otherwise the admission may be withdrawn.
