Mō te tūnga | About the role

We are seeking a motivated Evaluation Advisor to join our Evidence Based Policing (EBP) Team. EBP is about using information, crime-science and problem-solving methods to ensure that proven approaches and tactics inform our choices, are seen in the results, and provide confidence that what we do works. Our projects deliver integrated, high quality and innovative products and services to Police.

The Evaluation Advisor role is positioned within EBP’s Evaluation team, which delivers business-focused evaluations which assess strategies, policies, and frontline approaches. The evidence from these evaluations inform strategic and tactical decisions aimed at keeping our people and communities safe. We also provide advice and guidance to practitioners throughout our organisation so that evaluative thinking and practices are embedded in project implementation.

In performing this role, the Evaluation Advisor will work collaboratively and seamlessly with others in multi-disciplinary teams across EBP and throughout Police. An understanding of the business needs of our internal customers, and the external stakeholder landscape in which they operate, helps ensure our evaluations are practical. The evidence-based recommendations we make are highly tailored so that our evaluations add value for our end-users.

You will be comfortable working on and supporting long-duration robust evaluation initiatives as well as comfortable pivoting to provide rapid reviews which support EBP’s work during times of urgency.

Key Accountabilities:
Be heavily involved in all aspects of evaluations, including scoping, design, project management, analysis, and reporting.
Ensure that evaluation activity is subject to appropriate criteria and quality assurance, and is aligned with agreed ethical and practice guidelines.
Actively support and contribute to the development, maintenance and improvement of systems, processes and tools within the team, including current work programmes and practices, and future work planning.
Provide peer review and quality assurance for team members’ work.
Encourage and support open, honest and constructive relationships with colleagues.
As required, work across all facets of the EBP research and evaluation process, and utilise skills and knowledge to ensure that outputs are accurate, timely, and written to a high-standard.
Demonstrate a strong customer service and service delivery focus.
