Improbable Comedy is looking for an enthusiastic and skilled Marketing Assistant who is local to Montgomery County, MD to support promotion of our shows and our SPRUNG! Comedy Festival. This position is part-time, free lance position from August 2025 - August 2026.
Improbable Comedy is a live comedy production group. We are focused on high quality performances that highlight a diversity of performers and provide a great show every time for our awesome audience. We are based in Silver Spring, MD where we produce several shows per month, as well as a multi-day SPRUNG! Comedy Festival in March 2026.
We are looking for someone to help us promote to our current following and to grow our audience using videos and by enhancing our social media presence.
Schedule: Flexible schedule; position starts August 15 and will be 8 - 12 hours per week with the opportunity for growth and expansion.
Required availability: We have meetings weekly on Wednesdays 5-7pm and biweekly on Sunday mornings. Preference is availability for most upcoming shows (listed at improbablecomedy.com).
Location: We are looking for someone in Silver Spring, MD or who knows and loves this area. Much of the work can be done virtually from anywhere but several of the tasks will involve going to venues, businesses, locations or shows in the Silver Spring/Montgomery County area.
The ideal candidate is someone who can work independently but asks lots of good questions and participates as an active member of the team.
Our goals are:
1. To expand marketing reach through use of video and enhanced social media promotion.
2. To increase attendance at shows and our SPRUNG! Comedy Festival (March 11 - 15, 2026).
3. To engage the local business community to sponsor SPRUNG!
Responsibilities include
- Update pages on the Improbable Comedy website (wix.com)
- Create and/or edit video content for promoting on website/social
- Assemble photo montages and content from past shows to use in marketing
- Support promotion of our comedians, organizational partners, and local sponsors
- Assist in creation of content calendar and implementation of posting schedule (minimum 3-4 times per week)
Preferred Skills
- Basic video editing capability
- Understanding of brand messaging and basic marketing concepts
- Experience creating videos for event promotion
- Organizing skills and a creative thinker
- Solid communication and interpersonal skills
- Familiarity with Wix, Instagram, and Facebook, etc); bonus if you are familiar with Mailchimp and Eventbrite
