Experienced Marine/ Boat Technician

Modern Marine, Tennessee’s oldest boat dealership and a full-service dealer for Chaparral, Cobalt, MerCruiser Sterndrive, Mercury Outboard, and Volvo Penta, is seeking a motivated and well-organized Experienced Marine Service Technician to join our outstanding service department in the heart of downtown Nashville. Job Summary:
This full-time position involves working on boats, performing maintenance, repairs, and installations on various marine systems. Competitive pay is offered based on experience and skill level, with both hourly and commission-based pay structures available. While prior experience in the marine industry is desired, it is not required. Time management skills and attention to detail are crucial for success in this role.
Responsibilities:
Perform maintenance and repairs on engines, outdrives, and boat electrical (DC) systems.
Install electronics and hardware.
Diagnose customer issues.
Rig new boats for sale, including battery installation, electronics setup, and completing system checks.
Collaborate with the Service Manager to develop repair plans.
Utilize service software to track job time, parts, and service ticket completion.
Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Maintain and advance certifications in MerCruiser Sterndrive, Mercury Outboard, and Volvo Penta through online and factory training.
Communicate with the Parts Manager regarding parts needs.
Communicate with the Service Manager regarding service recommendations, issues, and outstanding jobs on repair orders.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years working on marine engines
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Experience towing trailers.
Own tools.
Mechanical inclination.
Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot engine and boat-related issues.
Reliability and punctuality.
Ability to work effectively within a team.
Ability to tow boats with a tractor and/or vehicle.
Sound judgment.
Attention to detail and a strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in the marine industry.
Experience with Garmin and Simrad electronics.
Experience working on tow boats.
Additional Information:
This position requires the ability to tow boats with both a tractor and a vehicle, as needed. This is a fast-paced work environment that requires the ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities.
INSEASON HOURS:
MONDAY- FRIDAY 7AM-5PM/ SATURDAY 7AM-2PM/ CLOSED SUNDAY (ROTATING WEEKENDS)
OUT OF SEASON HOURS:
MONDAY-FRIDAY 7AM-4PM/ CLOSED SATURDAY AND SUNDAY
*hours are subject to change based on work load throughout "off season" hours*
