About ENGEO

ENGEO is an award-winning, employee-owned consultancy of geotechnical engineers, engineering geologists, environmental scientists, and hydrologists. We’re known for practical, timely solutions, open communication, and a supportive, innovative working environment that puts people first.

Our culture is our strategy: we hire for potential and values - humble, hungry, and smart - and create an environment where our team thrive through hands-on support and mentorship, technical excellence, and opportunities for continuous development.

What will you be doing?

You’ll provide geological and geotechnical input for a wide range of projects, working closely with clients and collaborating as part of a multidisciplinary team. Your role will blend technical expertise with practical problem-solving and client service.

  • Site investigations & analysis: geological mapping, rock and soil characterisation, slope stability assessments, landslide hazard evaluation, and foundation recommendations.
  • Project delivery & collaboration: coordinating fieldwork, mentoring juniors, maintaining quality and consistency of deliverables, and working effectively with clients and contractors.

We work on a variety of complex projects for quality clients who value our services, including:

  • Residential subdivisions and large-scale land development
  • Transport and civil infrastructure
  • Vertical buildings and subsurface structures
  • Aged-care facilities and hospitals
  • Natural hazard and disaster remediation, including landslide stabilisation and rockfall mitigation

We keep hierarchy light and give you the tools you need to succeed. Say goodbye to bureaucracy, hello to a flat organisational structure and enjoy autonomy paired with strong senior & principal support. We promote technical leadership and learning, provide internal and external training, and encourage international opportunities through our connections to Australia and the US.

What do we look for in our people?

  • Values alignment: humble, hungry, smart - plus a team-first mindset and drive for continuous development.
  • Consulting fundamentals: quality reporting, practical solutions, clear communication, and a passion for client service.
  • Technical capability: geological mapping, rock and soil mechanics, slope stability, landslide hazard assessment, and sound judgement in NZ conditions.
  • Collaboration & leadership potential: contributing positively to our team culture, mentoring juniors, strong initiative, and taking ownership of your work.

We’d love to hear from qualified engineering geologists with a consulting background who are keen to grow their technical depth and expand their responsibility on projects.

We may or may not have a position for you right now, but we’ll be in touch anyway to discuss how you might fit in.

What’s in it for you?

We’re proud to offer a comprehensive package on top of a competitive salary:

  • Private health insurance via Southern Cross
  • Annual discretionary bonus
  • Wellbeing allowance
  • Phone allowance
  • Birthday leave
  • Long-service leave
  • Employee Share Ownership Program (ESOP) – all of our permanent staff start accruing ENGEO shares from year one.
  • KiwiSaver employer contributions on top of your salary.
