Nasittuq provides Operation & Maintenance services for the North Warning System (NWS), a joint Canada-United States early-warning radar system with 47 sites located across Northern Canada. We operate out of a Control Centre and Support Centre in North Bay, ON, with our Contract Management Office in Ottawa, ON.
What You’ll Do
Reporting to the NWSCC Operations Supervisor, the Facilities Crew Technician is responsible for monitoring the status of and remotely controlling NWS site equipment. Key responsibilities include:
- Remotely assisting in the maintenance of power generation, diesel engines, electrical distribution, HVAC systems, intrusion alarms, and fire alarm/suppression systems.
- Monitoring, analyzing, and correcting system faults; changing equipment parameters and configurations as needed.
- Reviewing corrective maintenance work requests and assessing priority, feasibility, and estimation.
- Liaising with 22 Wing System Maintenance (SM) to authorize system downtime and verify the operational status of equipment.
- Maintaining accurate Equipment Status Reports and notifying relevant parties of site emergencies, outages, or incidents.
Secondary Duties
- Providing guidance and training to Facilities Maintenance Technicians (FMT) and other personnel on procedures and techniques.
- Analyzing equipment failures and recommending corrective actions.
- Participating in installation planning and maintaining performance/maintenance records.
- Conducting environmental, safety, and quality checks to support a safe workplace.
Who You AreQualifications:
Education:
- Postsecondary diploma in an electromechanical field or equivalent Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) qualifications (QL5).
- Minimum 5 years of experience working with electromechanical systems.
Experience:
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience in facilities maintenance or similar roles.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Expertise in electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and structural systems.
- Proficiency in reading technical drawings and manuals.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively under a 7x24 shift environment.
- Experience with MS Word, Excel, and work management systems.
Other Requirements:
- Must already hold or be eligible to obtain a Level II (Secret) Clearance approved by the Canadian Industrial Security Directorate.
