Fall 2023 Internship – Product Management

Astrobotic Technology, Inc. is a space robotics company that seeks to make space accessible to the world. The company’s suite of lunar landers delivers payloads to the Moon for companies, governments, universities, non-profits, and individuals. The company is also developing advanced space robotics capabilities such as terrain relative navigation, mobile robotics for lunar surface operations, and reliable computing systems for mission-critical applications. Originally spun out of Carnegie Mellon University in 2007, Astrobotic is pioneering affordable planetary access that promises to spark a new era of exploration, science, tourism, resource utilization, and mining. Astrobotic’s headquarters is in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with a second location in Mojave, California.

Astrobotic’s Lunar Surface Systems Department is seeking a fulltime intern for the Fall of 2023 term. This internship is for interested and enthusiastic students about space systems to help transition existing capabilities and technologies at the company into services and products that can be marketed and sold to customers. This position will report to the Senior Project Manager of the Lunar Surface Systems Department. You will be responsible for developing business models, identifying customer segments, analyzing and reporting on the competitive landscape, conducting user research, performing price analyses, and creating discounted cash flow models for new products and presenting to Astrobotic leadership on your findings.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop comprehensive go-to-market strategies for new space products and services
  • Collect market research and direct customer input to inform product requirements and specifications for the Lunar Surface Systems Department
  • Support pricing strategies, including competitive analyses, intra-product-family differential pricing
  • Interface with engineering team on a regular basis to refine current product offerings and evaluate new product ideas
  • Work collaboratively across engineering and business teams to develop customer-facing product and marketing materials
  • Provide management with customer and product analyses
  • Perform value chain analysis on individual products relative to Astrobotic capabilities
  • Determine highest-priority market segments and assess target market share

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Pursuing an MBA or master’s degree in a related discipline
  • Experience formulating business models for technical products or services, and successfully leading go-to-market strategies for new products
  • Demonstrated experience engaging with customers/market for new products and services and using the Voice of the Customer (VoC) to inform product requirements
  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and new product development
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal skills and capacity to lead technical meetings with customers, team members and partners
  • Interest in customers’ needs and a commitment to delving deep into the challenges they experience

Desired Skills & Qualifications:

  • Space market experience with knowledge of spacecraft systems, components, and products
  • Experience developing products in space, demonstrating an understanding of Astrobotic’s customers
  • 2+ years of experience successfully creating and leading research, sales proposals, and customer facing product materials

Pay Range: $18-25 per hour*

  • The base salary range represents the low and high end of the anticipated salary range for this position. The actual base salary offered for this position will depend on numerous factors including individual performance, business objectives, and the candidates professional experience. Base salary is just one component of Astrobotic’s competitive total rewards strategy.
