About Opuha Water Ltd:

Opuha Water Ltd is based in Pleasant Point, South Canterbury where their primary role is to provide irrigation water to 16,000 hectares of farmland in the region. The key to the success of the Opuha Water irrigation scheme is Lake Opuha which is a man-made reservoir lake situated behind the Opuha Dam.

About the Role:

The Field Technician is responsible for carrying out a large part of the routine environmental monitoring and some dam surveillance monitoring undertaken by Opuha Water Ltd. You will spend most of your week out in the field, conducting water quality monitoring, flow gaugings, dam inspections and other environmental monitoring initiatives, bringing vital data back to the office for management and analysis. You'll be instrumental in supporting Opuha's mission to provide reliable water services to water users and for the environment.

This role is varied so you will need a can-do attitude, initiative, and a drive to get things done.

While some experience in environmental science or resource management would be advantageous, it is not essential. Above all, this role will suit someone who will thrive on taking ownership of the monitoring programs, enjoys working outdoors, is highly organized, and brings great attention to detail with a systematic approach to their work.

Key Responsibilities:

• Preparing all equipment required for field sampling and inspections, and managing your own work schedule
• Operating company vehicles and travelling throughout the Opuha scheme territory to conduct sampling and inspections
• Collecting samples and measurements relating to water quality and flow
• Conducting inspections of the Opuha dam infratructure
• Using and maintaining field equipment
• Entering data and organising laboratory analysis
• Working collaboratively with other team members

About You:

Ideal candidates will possess:

• The drive and motivation to self-manage
• Excellent communication skills
• Confidence with technology (data entry, MS Excel, email)
• Full drivers licence and a safe driving record
• A good level of physical fitness
• A genuine enjoyment of working outdoors (in any weather!)
• Confidence working in and around water
• Comfortable working alone in remote locations (safety measures in place)
