Band 3: $26.87 - $29.52 per hour (Subject to CUPE 1015 Agreement)

Location:
Servus Sports Centre

Duties:
Reporting to the Supervisor, Fitness, the Fitness Specialist will provide fitness programming to the community through personal training and other fitness programs. Daily duties will include building programs for clients, in person personal training, researching fitness trends and information, and assisting with fitness class scheduling and budgeting, as needed.

Personal Training
  • Develop and implement a goal oriented individualized fitness and health program in a one-on-one or small group scenario.
  • Demonstrate exercises and show correct movement patterns to personal training clients and members.
  • Monitor clients’ progress and re-adjust programs to suit the clients’ abilities and goals.
  • Assist members with machines, exercises, and fitness information when requested.
  • Promote and sell personal training services through walk-in consultations, wellness fairs, and phone calls.
  • Assist with marketing to increase revenue through fitness training.
  • Keep all client information and conversations confidential.
  • Manage time to fit clients’ schedules.
  • Work as a team with the other Fitness Specialists to fit all clients with the best suited trainer for their needs and availability.
  • Stay up-to-date on specific fitness research and coaching methods.
  • Share information and knowledge with the Fitness Team, members, and clients.
  • Organize and store waivers and health related forms in accordance to legislation.

Fitness Programs and Classes
  • Research and create fitness classes and/or programs based upon community needs or requests.
  • Promote programs and/or classes with the assistance of the marketing team.
  • Execute the program and/or classes from start to finish, or on-going if necessary.
  • Enter program into recreation software for online and in-person registrations.
  • Evaluate success of program based on finances, increased activity levels, and increased knowledge of fitness in the community.
  • Work closely with and assist the Grants Coordinator to research, apply and follow up with applicable grants.
  • Maintain confidentiality of participants.
  • Organize and store waivers and health related forms in accordance to legislation.

Safety
  • Learn and execute the Emergency Action Plans as a part of the SSC team.
  • Teach clients and members safe lifting techniques to minimize injury risk.
  • Document and client or patron incidents.
  • Assist in monitoring fitness equipment.
  • Attend safety meetings monthly
  • Participate in safety inspections as requested by supervisors
Other
  • Assist with other fitness related requests, both internally and externally, including but not limited to, presentations and group activity leading.
  • Assist with Fitness Class scheduling, budgeting, planning and promoting.
  • Cover the customer service desks, as required.
  • Provide excellent, high-energy customer service.
  • Other related duties as required.

Schedule:
The position is office based but a significant amount of each day will be spent training clients in the Fitness Centre. Normal working hours may vary based on facility needs. Early mornings, weekdays, evenings and weekends may be required.

Qualifications:
Mandatory
  • Completion of a post-secondary degree or related 2 year diploma in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Human Kinetics, or a directly related discipline and have relevant experience within a fitness environment.
  • Must hold valid Personal Training, First Aid and CPR certifications.
  • Must be physically fit.
  • Possess superior oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be proficient with computers, with basic to intermediate knowledge in Microsoft Suite.
Assets
  • Experience with a recreation software program.
  • AFLCA or equivalent group exercise instructor certification.

  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Successful applicant must provide proof of qualifications.
  • Applicants with international education will be required to include an Academic Credential Assessment with application.
