Front Line Service Navigator

Job Description:

This is a contract position (36 hours) and requires shift work, evenings, weekends and coverage as needed. Under the immediate supervision of the Program Manager, the Front Line Service Navigator is to provide direct support, assessment, advocacy and referrals for clients managing mental health and/or addictions challenges from a trauma informed, harm reduction approach. This position also provides occasional support to the front line team during peak hours or when staff coverage is unavailable. The successful candidate will perform all duties within the front line job description with an enhanced focus on specific supports for women with mental health and/or addiction needs. This position will require travel throughout the city of Barrie and working in various locations including but not limited to the Shelter and all transitional housing locations.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field and/or equivalent experience example, BSW, Psychology, Mental Health and Addictions Certificate, Knowledge of and demonstrated interest in issues relating to woman abuse, Related work experience in the VAW Sector
  • Thorough knowledge of woman abuses issues with specialized emphasis on the post crisis situation and its effect on women and children.
  • Experience in the following areas:

o Women's issues

o Brief solution focused counselling

  • Strong empathetic, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to find and access community based resources to support the overall needs of women including mental health and addiction services.

Duties or Responsibilities:

Program Delivery

  • Provides trauma informed counselling to clients on an individual basis in an effort to assist them in developing an awareness of their individual situation and develop a care plan to manage and support their mental health and/or addiction.
  • Assesses clients' need for services and specialized sources of assistance and arranges appropriate referrals to other community resources, as necessary.
  • Assists clients in locating and utilizing community resources and acts as a liaison and advocate where necessary.
  • Liaises and collaborates with other mental health and addictions service provides to coordinate wrap around services and plan for discharge from shelter.
  • Assists with all front line duties and as assigned, example, managing crisis line, conduct intakes and discharges, assist with housekeeping and shelter maintenance as required.

Occasional Services

  • Co-facilitates groups for women who are not residents of the shelter to provide information and support related to the issue of relationship abuse, mental health and addiction management and strategies.
  • Provides front line support and covers all aspects of front line job responsibilities.

Administrative

  • Maintains confidential client files as appropriate.
  • Gathers statistical data as part of the reporting process for grant funds.
  • Assists and supports the report back process for the grant funds.

Professional and Personal Development

  • Works with other staff members in a variety of settings and shared experiences.
  • Attends and participates in team meetings.
  • Attends seminars, workshops and conferences whenever possible.

Other Duties

  • Develop and sustain community partnerships with agencies that support women’s wellness, mental health and addiction support.
  • Coordinate educational opportunities with community partners and staff.
  • Assist with housing applications and sourcing resources to support women’s housing needs.
  • Provide educational information about community services to women and staff.
  • To perform other shelter related duties as directed by the Program Supervisor and/or Executive Director.

Hiring Requirements:

  • Vulnerable Sector Criminal Reference Check
  • Valid C.P.R. and First Aid Certificate
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License
  • Reliable transportation is required to facilitate supports in various locations.

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract

Pay: $25.85-$28.54 per hour

Work Location: In person
