Overview
The Head of Civils will lead our civil engineering function, overseeing delivery of groundworks, temporary works and permanent civils packages across modular, events and infrastructure projects. This role combines operational leadership, stakeholder engagement and commercial oversight to ensure safe, compliant and cost‑effective delivery of civils works throughout Ireland.
Key Responsibilities
Provide leadership and direction to the civils team, including site managers, supervisors and subcontractors, ensuring clear accountability and development opportunities.
Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety policies and relevant statutory requirements; promote a positive safety culture and ensure everyone goes home safe.
Own programme delivery for civils packages, coordinating with project managers, planners and supply chain to meet client requirements and key milestones.
Produce and maintain clear scope of works, method statements and temporary works designs in liaison with design and engineering teams and maintain required standards and quality adherence.
Manage commercial performance of civils activities including estimating input, cost control, change management and subcontractor procurement.
Review and interpret technical drawings, ground investigation reports and specifications to translate into safe, buildable solutions.
Drive continuous improvement, standardisation and best practice across civils delivery, including quality assurance and site inspections.
Build and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships, representing the business professionally at all times.
Prepare and present regular performance reports to senior management and support bid/tender stages as required.
Undertake any other duties consistent with the role and business requirements.
Requirements
Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent, or substantial demonstrable experience in civil engineering delivery within Ireland.
Proven track record in managing civils packages on commercial projects, with experience of groundworks, drainage, concrete works and temporary works.
Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practice, with experience of implementing site H&S systems and behavioural safety programmes.
Excellent commercial awareness with experience of estimating/pricing civils works, cost control and subcontractor management.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications and ground investigation reports.
Proficient IT skills with experience of project management and estimating software; comfortable accessing schedules and documents via mobile devices.
Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
Valid driving licence; willingness to travel and work on sites nationwide, including occasional evenings and weekends as business requires.
Relevant tickets and qualifications desirable.
Self-motivated, organised and able to work under pressure while maintaining high standards of quality and customer focus.
