Located just one block south of Parliament in the heart of Canada’s capital, Ottawa Marriott Hotel has long been a landmark of hospitality. YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:

  • Greet and seat all guests entering the restaurant.
  • Explain/ tour the buffet with all guests.
  • Allocate seating of guest so as to balance the number of tables for each section.
  • Responsible for the daily total guest count. Communicate all BEO’s to manager at beginning of each shift.
  • Inspect equipment and linen supply in room to see that everything is in order.
  • Check and assist in service to see if guests are satisfied.
  • Report any difficulties, compliments or complaints to the Outlets Manager.
  • Read, maintain and make entries in the daily log.
  • Ensure cleanliness, maintenance and order of menus and wine lists.
  • Ensure the appearance of the room is according to floor plan, with tables and chairs lined up.
  • Check the cleanliness of carpets, furniture, windows, curtains and walls within the restaurant prior to the service commencement.
  • Answer the telephone courteously and professionally.
  • Thank all guests and encourage their return when leaving the restaurant.
  • Provide guests with information about the hotel.
  • Stock host/hostess station and server stations with pens, toothpicks, candies and other supplies.
  • Help transition of shift change and resetting of tables for new meal period.
  • Communicate with next shift any pertinent information, pass-ons.
  • Follow all Marriott policies and procedures as outlined in hotel manual.
  • If any of the scheduled Hosts are late or phone in sick, inform the Outlets Manager.
  • Forward shift cover counts to Managers at end of shift.
  • Communicate with kitchen and bar regarding number of reservations, large walk-ins, daily specials and out of stock items.
  • Other reasonable duties as required.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience

  • Post-secondary diploma or Hospitality/Management certificate.
  • Previous experience as a host/hostess in a hotel restaurant or similar environment.
  • Previous customer service experience.

Skills and Abilities

  • Must be available to work variable shifts (days, evenings, weekends and holidays).
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and to multi-task.
  • Bilingualism required (French & English).
  • A team player with a genuine desire to please each guest.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills required.
  • Able to work independently and under pressure.
  • Must be polite and well groomed with good telephone etiquette.
