Job Overview
The Housing Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting individuals and families in securing safe and affordable housing. This position involves working closely with clients to assess their needs, provide support through the housing application process, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations. The ideal candidate will possess strong negotiation skills, a solid understanding of Fair Housing regulations, and experience with crisis intervention.
Responsibilities
- Conduct assessments to determine clients' housing needs and eligibility for various programs, including Section 8 and LIHTC.
- Assist clients in completing housing applications and provide guidance throughout the process.
- Negotiate with landlords and property managers to secure suitable housing options for clients.
- Maintain accurate records of client interactions and housing placements using software such as OneSite or Yardi.
- Provide crisis management support to clients facing housing emergencies or challenges.
- Ensure compliance with Fair Housing regulations and advocate for clients' rights within the housing system.
- Collaborate with community organizations and service providers to connect clients with additional resources, including addiction counseling when necessary.
- Stay informed about local housing policies, laws, and available programs to effectively assist clients.
Qualifications
- Experience in crisis intervention or management is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with OneSite or Yardi property management software is a plus.
- Knowledge of Fair Housing regulations, Section 8, and LIHTC programs is essential.
- Strong negotiation skills to advocate effectively for clients' housing needs.
- Background in addiction counseling can be beneficial in supporting clients facing related challenges.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with clients, landlords, and community partners.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
