From product 101 to application techniques to artistry and trends, the Design team creates the training solutions that drive the training strategy and provide the tools for our store employees to be the most knowledgeable in the industry.
The Instructional Design team supports Retail training needs by:
- Designing instructionally solid learning experiences that support key business objectives
- Designing graphics for purposeful communication to support the learning message and guide comprehension
- Conceptualizing and creating dynamic, immersive, interactive experiences where learning is applied through animations, simulations, gamification, storytelling, assessments, skill building, and other hands-on interactions

The Opportunity:
As an Instructional Designer, you will be responsible for designing new learning solutions to address business needs and performance gaps that support the overall store curriculum and client experience. Reporting to the Manager, Instructional Design, you will work cross‐functionally to gather project details, determine learning solutions, gain buy‐in, and drive implementation of training programs.
You will use your knowledge of instructional design methodologies, andragogy, and training industry standards to identify focused learning objectives and design effective, innovative learning experiences for ILT, WBT, and blended learning programs. You will implement instructional design standards and best practices across all projects, ensuring a consistently high‐quality output, and work with your project
team to create project plans to effectively complete work given needs and constraints.
In addition, you will…
- Facilitate discovery meetings and conduct SME interviews to confirm needs and translate into concrete learning solutions
- Proactively work with the SME to capture and validate course‐ and program‐specific knowledge
- Proactively gather info from business partners, resolve challenges, identify opportunities, and follow up with project stakeholders as needed
- Identify the scope of projects given time, resources, impact to business, and other influencing factors
- Design and develop learning solutions to meet business needs
- Write focused, creative, and effective instruction, producing related design documents (storyboards, prototypes, ILT materials, etc.)
- Establish and maintain strong and efficient relationships with business partners (SMEs, PMs, stakeholders, CPT)
- Ensure final project deliverables are produced at the highest quality
- Work with the Manager, ID to write defensible and effective assessments and inform assessment strategies and identify and implement project evaluation strategies
- Ensure learning solutions incorporate best practices from adult learning theory and support the overall Sephora and Sephora at Kohl’s strategy 75%
- Facilitate collaborative design sessions with the Creative Production Team (CPT)
- Guide the CPT to ensure graphics, multimedia, and other interactive elements support the learning experience
- Influence the design and UX of learning programs in the LMS
- Communicate clearly and regularly with project teams to ensure project work is on track
We would love to hear from you if you have…
- 3-5 years of experience in Instructional design and development of web‐based and instructor‐led training in a corporate setting
- Demonstrated expertise in the application of instructional design methodologies, best practices in adult learning theory, and training industry standards, ideally in retail, beauty, or corporate environment
- Consulting capability with excellent presentation, interpersonal, and written/verbal communication skills with a strong executive presence
- Demonstrated experience managing client and stakeholder relationships
- Demonstrated research and analysis skills, including the ability to conduct needs analyses and analyze and draw conclusions from evaluation and assessment data
- Process improvement and critical thinking skills; proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize responsibilities in a fast‐paced environment
- Demonstrated experience designing complex, creative learning solutions
- Highly collaborative and open to multiple perspectives
- Ability to influence peers, leaders, and business partners
- Proficient in course authoring (Articulate Storyline and Rise) and creative tools (Vyond, Adobe
- Creative Suite) and knowledge of learning management systems (BigTinCan)
- Preferred experience designing microlearning, gamification, simulations, and innovative approaches to learning #LI-AZ1 #Remote
The annual base salary range for this position is $96,390.00 - $128,250.00 The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include, as applicable, the applicant’s qualifications for the position; years of relevant experience; specific and unique skills; level of education attained; certifications or other professional licenses held; other legitimate, non-discriminatory business factors specific to the position; and the geographic location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will perform the job. Individuals employed in this position may also be eligible to earn bonuses.
