Our San Jose facility is a high-volume food production and distribution environment that is hiring energetic and quality-oriented team members. We have full-time positions that work SUN - THURS and follow the school year calendar. Perfect for families to enjoy the holidays off!
The Porter is a critical role in the kitchen area to ensure all aspects of receiving raw/ packaged ingredients and packaging are of company standards. The Porter works closely with the Production Kitchen Manager and Shift Manager to ensure all quality control, receiving, and kitchen related items are being met. Shift starts with Receiving in conjunction with Kitchen Manager on duty. Shift starts at 7am or as required by Production Kitchen Deliveries.
Responsibilities:
- Receives all product to company (raw ingredients, frozen and chilled products, packaging, etc.).
- Maintains all storage space (dry, refrigerated, and freezer).
- Keeps all inventory and equipment in order, clean, and organized at all times.
- Follows established receiving procedures and is responsible for food storage according to HACCP program and health applicable regulations.
- Ensures proper receiving of product (inspects delivery vehicle, checks temperatures, ensures product is in good solid condition and meets all quality standards, and enters receipt on receiving log).
- Maintains FIFO food rotation practices and alerts Kitchen Manager to upcoming expiration dates.
- Manages food waste program (recording of waste level and removal)
- Assist with recording weekly and monthly inventories.
- Manages all invoices and packing slips (records items not delivered and ensures office receives all invoices and packing slips)
- Supports preventative maintenance on all equipment.
Requirements
- 2-3 years culinary experience in a busy foodservice environment. Previous experience in a high volume commissary type facility a plus.
- Ability to read and write English.
- Fluent in technology and adaptations.
- Ability to lift 80 pounds and physically perform requirements of job.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work well with others, participates as a team player, and inspires their team.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong math skills.
- ServSafe certification.
- Must pass drug & background check.
Physical demands and work environment:
- Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs, and safely move HFB’s which way upwards for 250 lbs and safely operate lift gate. Specific vision abilities required by the job require close and distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time, and on occasion may be exposed to cold temperatures in the walk-in refrigerator for extended periods of time. The noise level is usually moderate.
