Reporting to the Analytics Programme Manager, as the Junior Data Analyst in the Commercial & Analytics Unit you will be responsible for supporting the execution and delivery of the analytics and modelling programme of work for the Strategy, Growth & Planning Group.

Your primary focus will be gathering analytics requirements, delivering on the group’s business intelligence requirements and assisting with infrastructure funding modelling.

  • Support the delivery of the organisation’s Analytics Strategy to achieve effective data analysis, insights, and reporting.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards, reporting systems, data models, data cubes, automation systems, and performance metrics.
  • Design and delivery of reports and insights that analyse key regulatory, econometric, and planning functions. This includes developing written reports, interactive dashboards, and oral presentations.
  • Adhere to technical and QA processes to address business issues.
  • Assist the development and maintenance of the Councils infrastructure funding models and associated policy development.
  • Develop and support regional growth monitoring tools to assist regional spatial planning and reporting requirements.
  • Develop and implement R and/or Python script for data and statistics modelling purposes.
  • Develop and maintain machine learning and AI models.
  • Document any technical requirement, solution manual and process.
  • Steward and improve key council datasets with a goal of becoming a subject matter expert

  • The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Relevant tertiary-level qualification (Statistics, Data Analytics, Computer Science, or Information Systems qualifications preferred).
  • Relevant project participation experience (preferred).
  • Strong communication and data storytelling capabilities, both in verbal and writing.
  • Excellent teamwork skills with strong ability to work collaboratively with people from different professional background.
  • A high level of initiative, inquisitiveness, and creativity that can be applied to the work programme.
  • Confident presenting and explaining technical concepts to a range of audiences, including subject matter experts and non-technical stakeholders
  • Articulate – speaks and writes clearly and confidently.
  • Trustworthy with confidential information and can exercise appropriate discretion.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Can demonstrate capabilities with complex formulae, pivot charts, and PowerQuery (essential).
  • Great understanding of statistics modelling and data reporting fundamentals (essential).
  • Experience in SQL and database fundamentals (essential).
  • Experience producing and publishing dashboards (eg.PowerBI/Shiny) (essential).
  • Experience with R or Python toolsets (or equivalent) (essential).
  • Experience with machine learning (preferred).
  • A background in analytics, statistics, computer science, public policy, urban or environmental planning (preferred).

Circa from $72k to $90k dependent on skills and experience.
