Based in Wiri, this role will develop and support the introduction of new products and optimisation projects, processes and packaging within the business & Support compliance with Nestlé policy & procedures with respect to quality, regulatory, competitiveness and profitability whilst building and developing solid technologist skills.


A day in the life…


Reporting to the Applications Technical Manager responsibilities include but are not limited to:


  • Develop & execute simple New Product Development (NPD) innovation/renovation projects to build product and packaging skills in accordance with NPD briefs with a cross functional team.
  • Participate in factory trials and evaluate results to ensure an optimised product/packaging design.
  • Ensure required standards for products and packaging meet all aspects of the technical, safety, food safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure that the 3Cs (Consumer, Compliance, Competitive Advantage) are achieved and industrialisation and process improvement activities achieve commercial targets and meet customer and consumer needs.
  • Build and maintain knowledge of relevant legislations (Food Standards, NAL Safety legislation, Nestle Standards etc.)
  • Build and maintain technical skills and personal development through completion of appropriate training and participation in activities with more experienced technologists. Participate in sensory panel activities.
  • Build networks with the PTC/R&D, Factory AG teams, Commercial & Factory teams to keep abreast of manufacturing, packaging, and product trends.
  • Actively seek opportunities for raw/pack material simplification and consumer/customer benefits through NPD.
  • Compile Manufacturing Dossiers, Technical Acceptances, NesChanges, KSAs, Finished Product Specs, Project Files (soft and hard copies) and other relevant paperwork for development activities.
  • Use and maintain SAP for development recipes, recipe changes and ingredient data. Maintain materials, recipes and product data in SAP & SAP-RM.
  • Lead the NF (Nutritional Foundation) and Nutritional Assessments for the team.


What will make you successful


  • Joining a collaborative team of specialists, you will be a strong team player with a drive to deliver quality outcomes.
  • Food Science, Applied Science, Engineering or similar minimum Bachelor Degree qualification.
  • 1+ years’ new product development experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement and problem-solving tools.
  • Previous experience and familiarity working with SAP preferred.
  • A working understanding of NZ Food Regulations is beneficial.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills and a proven capacity to influence and negotiate to drive high standards of performance and quality.
