About the Role

Katautoko works closely alongside Māori Health Service & Equity / Te Puna Oranga, including Kaitiaki and Kaitakawaenga services, Hapū Wānanga, WaiŪ , and SUDI prevention, Te Whare Taurima, and Suicide Prevention Programmes.


Key responsibilities:

  • High quality, confidential administration support to Director, Māori Health Services, and Equity
  • Effective and efficient office systems including document and record management, ordering office supplies, travel bookings, expense reports, requisitions, financial reporting, coordinating technical support and any other administrative functions
  • Compliance with legal, financial, statutory and organisation requirements
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Build solid working relationships
  • Data entry and reporting, ensuring high standards of quality and accuracy
  • Continually look for ways to improve systems, process or behaviours that enable the team to deliver their objectives more efficiently
  • Project work as required
  • Tikanga practice upheld and supported

About the Service

Provided from Waikato Hospital since 1999, Māori Health services / Te Puna Oranga work across all Waikato H&SS, and localities to achieve Pae ora.

Māori Health services / Te Puna Oranga support clinical and operational teams to strengthen capability and capacity to achieve Māori health improvement and equity.

Champion and grow Māori cultural support services within H&SS to ensure these are connected to and accessible to whānau when and where needed.

Hospital services provided in a manner that reflects and honours Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Prioritises whānau-centred practice, pro-equity and anti-racism praxis.

Reflects focus on delivery that emphasizes:

  • Clinical and cultural leadership
  • Effective collaboration and partnerships
  • Māori, and iwi-centred models of hauora delivery
  • Upholds mana whenua, Kingitanga
  • Cultural safety for whaanau and staff

Upon the enactment of Pae Ora Act 2022 the DHBs were disestablished and replaced by Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora. Māori Health frontline services and staff were retained by Te Whatu Ora, overseen and reporting into Hospital and Specialist Services (H&SS).


About you

Required skills & experience you will need to be considered for this role:

  • Advanced skills in the MS Office Suite
  • Excellent organisational skills along with the ability to think ahead, use initiative, establish priorities and meet deadlines whilst preserving the highest levels of accuracy and confidentiality
  • Demonstrated ability to be diplomatic, influence and collaborate with others and deal with conflict
  • Demonstrated initiative while being productive, and paying attention to accuracy and detail
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) and presentation skills
  • Proficiency in report and correspondence writing
