Overview
MachineGames looking for an experienced Lead Technical Artist who will head up our team of talented technical artists and help bring our games to life!
You will be the bridge between the artists and the programmers and in this role, excellent communication skills are key.
In this role you will be working in a tight team under the supervision of our CTO and you will collaborate in cross-functional teams on a daily basis.

This is a permanent position starting as soon as possible with the option to work at either our HQ in Uppsala, or in our satellite office in Sundsvall, Sweden.
The position is onsite with the option to work in a hybrid capacity. We will support your relocation and/or application for work permit if you have a non-EU passport and/or are not currently residing in Sweden.
Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Head up the Technical Art team; Provide, inspire, motivate, and mentor team members. Provide the team with feedback, goals and career development.
- Act as an advocate and ambassador for technology sharing and innovation across projects.
- In collaboration with the Creative Director and CTO, define good pipelines and metrics for asset creation.
- Continuously monitor best practices among the art teams; suggest and drive change accordingly.
- Setup and own procedures and workflows related to asset review pipeline.
- Collaborate with leads of other departments to ensure levels and assets are built according to specifications.
- Vision Alignment: Stay up to date on the overall vision of the game.
- Act as key point of contact regarding game performance.

Production Collaboration:
- Prioritizing and planning of features
- Support technical artists in breaking down features to tasks
- Ensure that scheduling and planning matches workflow and strengths of individual technical artists
- Review sprint goals and estimates
- Develop, extend, and debug pipeline technology while respecting platform and design constraints.
- Proactively provide suggestions on how to utilize new technologies and tools and implement them into our workflow.
- Ownership of the studios Tech Art documentation and assuring it is up to date.
Qualifications
- Have proven, documented experience of mentoring and leading others in either a lead position or a similar role deemed equivalent.
- Minimum 1 full production cycle in a AAA environment titled as a senior or above.
- Demonstrate and apply strong problem-solving and skills related to asset creation and management.
- Understand a large set of the many components that makes up a modern video game and show capabilities of independently take on tasks and ownership.
- Used to working in an agile and iterative, international, work environment.
- Have expert understanding of physically based materials & rendering (PBR).
- Excellent problem-solving and technical debugging ability.
- Extensive experience in procedural content creation applications such as Houdini.
- Have extensive experience with scripting languages (Python, Mel or Max Script).
- Excellent communication in English, both verbal and written.
