Legal Counsel Data Protect.&Techlaw

The Position

We are seeking a highly skilled Legal Counsel specialized in Data Protection & Tech Law to join our Legal & Compliance team and the Italian organization as the Data Protection Officer (DPO) of two legal entities. You will play a crucial role in shaping and supporting Boehringer Ingelheim's mission to improve the health of patients (both human and animal) and contribute to sustainable development for future generations.

Tasks & Responsibilities

• Provide expert strategic legal advice and support on projects, agreements and/or solutions that impact data protection, technology, cybersecurity, and information governance. Review and participate in the negotiations of the related agreements.
• Ensure the maintenance and development of the Data Protection Governance, of the Data Protection Compliance Program and, in general, ensure the regulatory compliance in data protection (GDPR and privacy laws), information governance, and cybersecurity of the local legal entities while actively contributing to strategic business objectives.
• Oversee and develop the data processing register and relevant policies for the local legal entities.
• Contribute as subject matter expert training and awareness programs and facilitate them.
• Serve as the point of contact with regulatory authorities on privacy matters and actively participate in the activities and priorities of Boehringer's European Data Protection team.
• Work closely with internal stakeholders across various departments and business units including Human Pharma and Animal Health, as well as our plants, dealing with Marketing, Sales, Clinical Development, Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, HR, Finance, Facility & Engineering, Quality, Production and other colleagues within the group companies in Italy.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree in Law; you are preferably a qualified lawyer with at least 3 years of experience in primary law firms with strong Data Privacy and Tech/IT law practice.
• DPO certification or similar qualifications in the area of data protection would be considered a plus
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in in-house data protection roles with a strong focus on strategic advice in complex projects. You are familiar with new technologies impacting data protection and have extensive knowledge of applicable data protection and cybersecurity regulations in Italy. You know the OneTrust app.
• Excellent knowledge of English language and native level of Italian language.
• You can provide strategic advice and align data protection strategies with business objectives, adopting a risk-based approach to manage and navigate data protection challenges.
• Excellent communication skills to effectively advise and influence senior management, engage a variety of stakeholders, and simplify complex issues for diverse audiences.
• You thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and adapt quickly to new challenges and priorities.
