Job Description
Lifting / Scaffolding Supervisor plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient execution of lifting / scaffolding operations. These operations involve the use of cranes, hoists, forklifts, and other heavy machinery inclusive of scaffolding materials to move large, heavy materials, equipment, or components to various parts of the buildings on the project.
The Project
The Alkimos SeaWater Alliance project will deliver WA's next major water source - A new seawater desalination plant at Alkimos. At completion of stage 1 the plant will supply up to 50 billion litres of clean, safe drinking water to millions of Western Australians each year.

The project includes the design, construction, operation and maintenance of the plant with first production in 2028. Works include marine works and tunnels, seawater intake system, a seawater reverse osmosis desalination plant, groundwater system, drinking water storage and pump system, supported by civil, electrical and bulk earthworks.
Lifting Responsibilities
- Working alongside the crane co-ordinator to identify project lifting activities and the risk classification (Routine, Non-routine or Critical) as per the Acciona lifting procedure and review process of submitted lift plans.
- Risk Assessment: Carry out thorough risk assessments for each lift to identify hazards, such as obstacles, weather conditions, load stability, and worker safety.
- Monitoring Execution: Oversee lifting operations, ensuring that they are performed according to the lift plan and in compliance with safety protocols.
- Safety Management: Ensure that all personnel involved in the lift, including crane operators, riggers, and signalmen, follow safety guidelines and procedures. This includes wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and using appropriate rigging techniques.
- Coordination: To liaise with ASWA site trades on lifting requirements to ensure efficient utilisation of onsite lifting equipment.
- Coordination: Act as the primary point of communication between the lifting crew, crane operators, and ground workers, ensuring that instructions are clear and that the operation runs smoothly.
Scaffold Responsibilities
- Scaffold co-ordination: Liaising between AS-WA trades to identify access requirements and planned implementation to allow timely delivery and approval of designs depending on risk rating.
- Safety: Ensure scaffold contractor has adequately risk assessed the task and provided a safe working method statement for approval.
- Handover: Ensuring that the scaffold contractor has completed the install as per Australian standards (Low Risk) and in accordance with the scaffolding design (Moderate/High Risk). To also ensure that the scaffold contractor has completed a handover certificate and that the scaffold has been tagged prior to use.
- Inspection: Checking scaffolding structures are periodically inspected.
Required Skills and Competencies
- 5 years’ experience or more in heavy lifting/scaffolding operations, including hands-on experience as a crane operator, rigger, and/or scaffolder in Australia (highly desirable);
- 1 – 2 years’ as a minimum in a supervisory role;
- A high performer who is proactive, reliable and flexible;
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team;
- Strong team management, problem solving, organisational and communication skills;
